I know I have asked this before but it is getting worse
Painting with light 144 votes no comments
Zodiac 110 votes no comments
Both standing at around 5.25
Also the last few entries have not been critiqued maybe its a busy time
I have voted on images and usually comment but I dont see how anyone would Know that when voting because they dont know who they are voting on.
It is hard to vote at times because it takes such a long time to down load an image certain times of the day it seems worse. So I understand its not always easy. But as the votes are there they must see the image
When I tried to get into the forum today it asked again for my login details after I had already logged in.

Folks just don't know what to say with a photo that averages between 4.5-6.0 I have a 5.10 and have only 2 comments. The 2 of them was enough for me. At least I know why they don't like it or voted lower.

Personally I havent gone thru all the shots yet & voted. Once I do will drop comments here & there.
There's still a lot of time left for both so hang in there!

I'm in the same boat. But of the 3 comments I've received, only 1 tells me why the shot scored lowly. That helped, admittedly.
I agree totally with Sonifo - non-descript entries are really difficult to comment on. (I thought that mine wasn't, though.) |

Well I have never scored much higher than mid 6 but I have always had comments mostly helpful
I think its the mid range that need the comments The higher ones are obviously taken by good photographers and the mid range need the help and advice to achieve the top places I know I like to know what I can do to make an image better its all part of a learning curve. Isnt it?
I have tried with my entries to be interesting and some have flopped some have been good but not knowing is difficult |

well as one who doesn't generally leave too many comments, this is how i feel. there are SO many pictures and i am egaer to get through them all.. if i was to comment on all 177 pictures, it would take hours and hours. i guess i could comment on the worst and best in my opinion... i agree i should comment more... but if you want the simple reason, so far.. why i haven't commented more, it is because it takes so long allready going through all the pictures and rating them. |

New here, so a question about commenting...
on street signs i voted on all 204, commented on 25% or so.
On zodiac, votes on 73 (60%) and commented on 7%.
SO i see a pic...if i see an obvious flaw, a technical flaw, i comment. If i feel the composition is off, i comment (this is more opinion than fact of course, and i could be wrong)
Now then, some of the pics (street signs comes to mind) get to be repetetive (up shot of a stop sign and the sky for example). But he time i get to #10 of these, i have nothing original to say. To say 'Saw this 8 pics ago' is not fair nor constructive. I may find this shot boring (unimaginitive is more PC i suppose) but how does that comment help anyone?
I make good and bad comments where i think i can be of some help. If i rate one 8+, then i usually make no comment - how may times can i write 'good shot'? the 8+ says that. If i see an 'average' shot, what can i say that is constructive and not critical? (as in ugly cat/child/fish or What were you thinking on this one?? I may have to comment on those that i just don't get...
Even 1 or 2 comments are helpful, the prob is when they conflict! |

Network has been extremely slow on this end. Even uploading a picture takes forever.

I agree with the time it takes to load sometimes its just soooooo long I usually do something else like read or something look at the image and then wait for the next one.
What makes it even harder now is my daughter now votes its a shames we cant do the voting at the same time instead of loading them up twice.

Of the two challenges I've been around to vote on, I've commented on maybe half my total number of votes. If I think there's something worth praising, I do it, as specifically as possible. Same goes for things I think are not so good.
Good or bad, however, I'm more likely to comment on the shots that seem like they had some forethought and inspiration involved. If it seems to me that the "photographer" obviously avoided critical thinking when shooting and submitting, I tend to avoid it when voting. 5, next. 5, next...
Then again, even if a shot does have technical merits, but doesn't particularly strike me in any way, well, I tend not to comment on those either.
(I'm no expert here but hey, "everyone's a critic", right? I'm just saying I have a hard time coming up with something to say about images that don't inspire me in some way, good or bad!)
