working on revamping my website, and working with flash a bit more.
all the animation is coded, using prototypes.
curious what folks think of the look before i get too involved in coding the rest of it. basically just the main page done so far.
the water link works, but it might take a bit to open up - 85K file loaded into the main movie.
if you've got a minute or two
Web Site
thanks,

Looks great, worked smoothly. Via my T1 connection there was no delay in anything, the water pics loaded quickly and looked great....I've also just done a website for my pics, and need to learn more tricks...my pages redraw entirely as successive pics are viewed - kind of annoying (it's only a momentary blip with a T1 line, but probably more annoying with a slower connection). I much prefer the way your pics are presented. |

Nice site looks good. The only niggle I have is that where the arrows are over the prev and next buttons, it is stopping the mouseover from working, making some strange on&off button behaviour. I would suggest incorporating the arrow into the button symbol so that this could be avoided.

I also looked at your prototype site, and it looks good. I'm using a DSL connection, and the water photos displayed instantly. I love the shot of the dog's eyes on your home page!
Good catch on the prev/next button mouseover behaviour Konador!

Speaking as a dial-up user, you might want to put up a "loading" display when each gallery is selected so you get soomething other than a blank area. Also, you might think about what to do with the prev and next buttons when you get to the first/last image in the gallery - disable/dim them, or loop back to the start/end?

my url is ugly for now - here it is. Non-family pic section is the more interesting of the two. Will investigate using flash - don't know if Net Fusion uses that or not, I believe it is capable of doing so, but I doubt I did that in my quickie design.
[edited to direct to non-family section]

thanks all, mainly just trying to get the flow of the motion down, and coding the snippets that the rest of the site will use.
basically the main movie loads external files, but those will use the code snippets from the main movie once they are loaded. preloaders will be added to all the extrenal movies, as i have only just thrown the water links part together quickly - neglected the preloader.
the main preload will be more interesting if the main movie file gets over 80K - the buttons will be fixed.. i am having trouble getting the action right for the gallery parts, and the buttons are kind of there for now to test things out. flash is great, but gets a bit frustrating at times. my intention in the redo is to clean my programming up, and make simpler - or at least mainly all in one place.
everything - for those who know flash - is done on a single frame, so i dont really use a timeline, but more of a tick of the clock so to speak.
i house 95% of the code on the main movies timeline, and just call it from individual movie clips. ideally i would like to tie in a database, using PHP, but right now my server doesnt support mySQL ( err - i dont want to pay the extra money, and lose unlimited storage and bandwidth that comes with upgrading plans. )
thanks again, will keep at it.
EDIT: none of the links are currently up - but i have modified the main part a bit. got to get the damn buttons working how i want them to...
