I know there is another tread on some portrait shots, so I thought I would sneak mine in here also.
This is my first attempt at actual portrait shots.

I took these for a friend of mine who just wanted some nice updated shots.

The first 8 shots I was just checking the lighting/exposure, I just used natural light coming in the window. Shots 9 - 29 were actual poses, and the rest of them she was just being plain silly.

I have NOT adjusted any of the images yet, only resized for the web so she can pick the ones she likes then I will make any necessary adjustments.

Some GREAT shots (I love #18). You won't have any trouble finding keepers in that lot. Looks like you had fun, too. Bravo.

Some very nice shots. 42 and 43 are my favorites.

James

Very nice for your first attempt.

Some shots I like are; 18, 19, 21, 23 and 40.

What I like is the subtle smile. The big smile seems forced.
Casual poses.

More fill lighting on the face less from the rear window.

Subject looking away from the camera and not directly at it.
Gives more of casual pose.

Did you use your flash for fill?
Did you use a bounce on the flash?

I really think some of these have great possiblities.

I like the tree decorating idea. But they had more of a snapshot appeal than portrait.

The shots on the stairs I did not feel comfortable with?
Why would she be setting on the stairs with a magazine in her hand?
Maybe the magazine should be left out.

I like your work so far though.

I would like 21 and 23 most but I have to say I didn't think the big smile looked forced - it's a killer, makes you want to smile back.

Thanks for the comments on the pics.

The stair shots were her idea and I was not to happy with them but I did like a few, the magazine was to just give a "casual" feel, according to her and her sister....

I did use some fill flash and tried to bounce some flash, but it didnt work out too well.

I didnt want to do the tree shots , heck its the end of january and she still has her tree up...talk about lazy...

Anyway...thanks again for the comments, hopefully the next time I do this I will know a little bit more about what I am doing.

I wouldn't say lazy :)

A lot of people love Christmas and hate to take the tree down and admit it is over. It is that time of year for warm friendly feelings and sharing that you do not see everyday. It is a break from the everyday stress and just plain real life.

My wife and I would leave our tree up until June if we could get away with it.

But then I keep hearing that old song playing in my head:
"They are coming to take you away; ha ha, ha ha"

LOL

I like them. I would crop them a bit tighter [to remove railing] but very natural looking pose.
In the shoulder shots (in the chair) I'd raise her up on a pillow so the back of the chair isn't showing. That or include more of the chair, but not just a few inches.
Very pretty hair and smile. I'd focus on those two areas and try to highlight her hair.

think a lot of them (the first 25 or so) have blown out hair and shadows on the eys and under the lip. Would use a reflector underneath her.

A book even can be used as nice prop and a natural reflector..

Just my thoughts. Nice tho.

I like number 47 you will have some nice photos once you do your adjustments. You have a lot of keepers. Good for your first attempt.
