In that case, I would feel obliged to show off by standing as far away as possible from the urinal while still being able to hit it.

This was many years ago, mind you, but when I was in Paris with a school group we were told that the washroom attendants there didn't make any wage other than tips, so that this was one place we were to definitely leave a few francs.

You mean actually standing away from it, as opposed to leaning over it? ;)

I wasn't meaning in houses, rather, in public places like pubs and restaurants, or the public ones provided by councils - presumably you don't have beds and baths in these over the pond? Yet in films, at any rate, these are still referred to as restrooms or bathrooms...

It's the same thing with a Washroom. You aren't likely to "wash" yourself in a public restroom nor are we likely to take a "bath" in one or even take a "rest" (although some do have couches in there for the women). It's just what it's called I guess...
Some years ago when I was visiting a restaurant (in a country that lists English as its primary language) and asked "where is the bathroom, please?" the answer was "you wish to take a BATH!". My clarifying request may have been a bit too specific (and I'll leave it to your imagination), but it did get the answer I needed: "down the hall and to the left."

I was out on the town last night and we ended up in a night club...go to the toilet....yeh he is in there trying to spray me with aftershave...told him politely not to bother.

As for my generation, we just say "I need to pee" and when we need to go #2, we are more likely to use the polite term "I need to go to the bathroom(...NOW)." We usually don't mention having to poop unless it is among close friends, which is weird I know, but it's funny.

My brother simply says "I've gotta go grow a tail."
