I got an offer to be a beta user of a new site called PhotoRadar. The reason I am suspicious is: the invitation refers to my username at DPC (idnic). So... I wonder if everyone here got the same "exclusive" invitation. Anyone?, Everyone?

I could have, hard to say because I usually delete those types of emails with out opening them.

Not that I'm aware of. Why did they say that they invited you? Are there any other sites that you use that username?

Nope , no invite

I did not get one. I didn't get one to Obama's beerfest either. What the heck is going on around here?! >:/
...oh wait-- here's one in my stack of unopened mail that says "Notice to Appear" - that could be something...

I got one but I cannot figure out where they got my info from. They took a username that I have not used in a long time. But they had the current email addy. I am sure it was not a spam from here.

I used idnic on one other site an eon ago... but after DPC, I started using a diff login for other sites I joined. A couple of years ago I deleted my accounts on all but 3 photography-related websites. So I'm pretty sure the username and email addy was pulled from here.

The invite just says that they want me to be an "exclusive" beta user and gives me the beta login info. I had a look around the site (though I haven't logged in yet) and it actually looks very robust, a little DPReview-ish... I'm just worried about being spammed.

Cindi - depending on where your email account is, there are ways you can setup email aliases that just forward to your email (i.e. photoradar@myemaildomain.com -> cindi@myemaildomain.com) or just setup an a gmail account or other free account specifically for that site and then you know if that address is being abused and you can just delete the alias/mailbox and mail some anthrax to the site owners.

Anyway, if they already have your email address, they can easily distribute it to spam mailing lists now.

Interesting - I just 'googled' Photoradar and came up with only sites that "help" those with speeding problems.

She mentioned the site is in Beta so it is not likely in the search engines yet.
...but the info might come in handy for me in other ways. :)

For several years I thought it was some sort of Freudian reference before she posted in one of those "What does your username mean?" threads.

Not me... I guess they saw my portfolio and decided better of it. But then again, nobody in Nigeria ever has money for me either.

I feel so... so... left out.... Not.

I got a PM (thanks, Sarah) that explains how I probably got this invite. Seems PhotoRadar is the new name for a website that has been around a while. Our dear friend, and my future husband, Manny Librodo urged many of us to visit it several years ago to vote on a contest that he was in at the time.

I'll keep an eye on the beta progress and the site's launch and let you guys know if it seems like a keeper. :)

Cindi dear, I think you have some competition for his affections...

i have been invited and as far as I know this is the new Digital Camera magazine website, so if you were a registered user on DCmag.you would automatically be invited.

Nah, don't worry about it... If they really want to get your opinion - they will call past and pick you up :-)
