I was curious, are there any precautions set in place to keep someone from signing up twice, and using one of their memberships to vote bad on everyone's picture? I was looking at someone's profile, and they have made lots of votes and comments - avg. vote is fairly low, but has never taken a picture. Maybe it is just someones' friend voting to help, but I just thought it was a little strange. I have a friend that got me into this site and we both got basically the same comment from the same guy, so we checked him out and became a little suspicious.

Hey Brett!

dunno what they exactly do, but the admins keep an eye on ghost accounts. Unfortunately there are lots of accounts like that. Plus folks who dont have cameras tend to leave wierd comments.

I wouldnt sweat it tho. There more legit folks than the vagrant ghost account holder!

Some people like to vote and comment on pictures. Some people are 'lurking' until they feel confident enough to submit a shot. Some people dont even own a camera and yet like to vote/comment. I think because someone hasnt submitted does not mean they are up to no good. Sometimes if their member date is fairly recent then it could be that their first submission is currently being voted on.

That said I'm sure there are people who could potentially do what you suggested. I'm sure you could contact the admin via the contact form and let them know about it and they could do an IP check to see if they are the same person, but even then families use the same computer, same camera etc without being the same person.

Brett, it is my opinion that people who feel the need to cheat aren't a concern. It's the people who don't need to cheat (aka, kiwiness, jmseltzer, jjbeguin, to name a few) that you should worry about.

In other words, if they are good and likely to place in the top 10%, they will do so honestly. If they feel the need to cheat, their photos probably won't even be in the top 50%.

That being said, I do agree that if it can be shown that they are cheating, they should be shown the door. But I wouldn't worry too much about it.

We have caught quite a few people with more than one account, but there is always the possibility that we are missing some. There's also a vote monitor, though, which detects voting patterns where voters are deliberately trying to sway the votes which would hopefully prevent this sort of thing. Hopefully it's just someone who likes to vote but not enter (like me).
