Just because something is a good idea doesn't mean that a rule has to be made for it.

Riding your bike without a helmet doesn't affect anyone but yourself. Not giving a photo a fair review does affect the photographer looking to learn from their entries.
Edit: Not saying you personally don't give a fair review. :-)

Just thinking out loud here, but an image in a magazine like National Geographic probably gets less than five seconds to stop the reader. Shouldn't part of the challenge be creating an image that is worth pausing for? |

EVERYBODY GETS 10 FROM NOW ON, AND A GOOD REVIEW... THAT WILL MAKE EVERYBODY HAPPY. EVEN THOSE WITH BAD PHOTOS. |

If I am forced to watch 5 secs at a horribly bad pic I will definitely give it a 1 instead of a 2,3 or 4.

If the photo is good I spend more than 5 sec looking at it...why wouldn't you? the whole concept is to be "taken " by the power of it...and a so-so photo doesn't get any better the longer you look at it...anyway I, too go back over my votes at a different time to see if I feel the same before the voting ends. |

This post really generated a lot of noise, you all make intelligent and constructive points esspecially those of dearwolf and dtouch1. Everyone should get a TEN, that's what I really meant when I put up this post (because I'm a pathedic photographer).
But sereously, after reading all the posts that were left I agree that it would be excessive to have a manditory limit. The intelligent and thoughtful photographers probably outweigh flippant camera owners on a website such as this.
