Hi
Now that my trial of Silver Efex has run out, I find I don't want to live without it. I'll probably buy the whole suite but need advice.
There seems to be 3 versions:
One for Aperture
One for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom
One for all of the above
It isn't clear to me whether the second 'Lightroom' one will work with Photoshop (rather than just Lightroom); the advertising material could be read either way.
Can someone who has a Nik product working with PS advise whether the cheaper (second) option will work with CS4?
Many thanks

I can't imagine that it won't work in CS4. I use nik software's color efex pro with no problems in CS4. They state on their website that it is compatible with CS4 so you should be good to go! :)
eta
adobe ps 7 through CS4
adobe lightroom 2.3 or later.

If you purchase the CS4 version, you are entitled to download the LR2 version free! The LR2 version will not install in Photoshop, although I don't know what will happen if you install it manually.
25% Coupon code "DZISER", still active, used it yesterday for Silver Efex |

The lightroom version will not work with Cs4 as a plugin. You can open an image in lightroom, choose the plugin from Nik you want to use and it will open that image in a stand alone program. Make you adjustments with the file and then save, it saves a tiff file with the nik adjustments and then you can open that with Cs4. You will not be able to teak the adjustments like you would be able to with smart filters in Cs4.

Bear is correct that the Photoshop version works in Lightroom. I recently bought the entire suite and all I had to do was download a seperate Lightroom installer from their site to also use it in lightroom. Works great in both products.

I bought the LR only edition, and other than saving money, I regret it.
I love using LR and avoiding PS as much as possible BECAUSE I LOVE having all my changes reversable without storing 3 GB of intermediate files (e.g., saving lots of PS versions before you flatten.
The LR version is NOT in sync with the LR philosophy. Or even the PS philosophy.
When you select "Edit in Nik XXX" (substitute any Nik tool there) from LR, you create a TIF file, then you do one "operation". Then you have to save, go back to LR. Now you can do it again, but to make it reversable, you need to let it make a new TIF file EACH TIME.
Talk about the antithesis of LR.
I like the Nik filters, and I'm sure it's as much Adobe's fault for not building a plug-in architecture for LR, but at least using the tools in PS you can do each pass on a different layer and keep them in the same file until you're happy.
What's really needed here is the changes to be done in the LR settings meta file, so they are part of the normal LR history, and we don't create a million files.
Also, as a side note, the Nik filters are not very good about cleaning up after themselves, and I am constantly cleaning out the temp directory of huge TIF files it leaves behind (working files, not the ones it keeps generating in my main photo directory.)

| Neil - I have the same complaint with the Lightroom version. I think that is why they give you both versions in the same deal. In any case it is still nice when I want to do a qucik and dirty edit and use Lightroom only. |

Yeah, I was confused by that whole tiff thing (using the trial version) and it did seem to convalute the whole process. I liked the filters, as well demonstrated in the demo tutorials but I'm far better off in LR for everything else, stand alone. |
