What makes you think that? Sometimes I get the impression that people think converting photographs to b&w automatically makes them artsy and sofisticated, while on the contrary, it produces some kind of parody. Maybe colour for Street Photography makes it tougher cause most of the street photography 'roll-models' shot in b&w?

I think that for street photography it's generally about the details, which works better in B&W. Unless the colours add something or are part of what makes the shot interesting, then I feel B&W works better.

I don't know if it's an "artsy" thing or not, but when I look at my street stuff on the computer, I convert it to B&W, look at both and I usually find the B&W stuff looks better. There are always some exceptions, and those stay in colour. Isn't that what processing is all about, getting the best out of a shot?

Ah, I'm hoping the heatwave ends before this week.. I've had to stop my june side challenges mid way because the weather became really bad.

I prefer street photography in colour so I like this challenge..

B&W eliminates distractions that color can introduce to a scene. The top shots for Street Photography in Color will be careful in their composition to exclude bright items that take away from the primary subject IMO.

As one who likes to shoot street, I don't generally seek out situations for their color, nor do I avoid them. I generally look for some sort of interaction - between people and things, light and things, people and light, etc. And pigeons. I generally look for pigeons. But yeah, at times color can interfere somewhat (ie create distractions); other times it seems to play nicely into the picture. In my case, it's rarely intentional either way.

Figures... Gay Pride parade was last Sunday. And now it's grey and rainy and people are avoiding being on the streets.

I agree. As a matter of fact I usually will convert to B&W to eliminate colorful distractions in the background.
