Do you guys resize your photos as one of the first steps or one of the last before you submit? I have always resized last. Every time I do suddenly the shot looses its pizazz. I know that when you reduce the size you will loose fine detail and all that but is there something I could/should do different? The only think I can think of is resizing first but I don't know if that would make editing different, and if so in a bad way. |

All adjustments and crops, etc., then Resize, then sharpen, then SFW. The last steps you should do are resize, sharpen, save for web. when you resize you almost always have to sharpen the image before saving for web. Search the forums on Sharpening and Resizing and I think you will find many interesting threads full of information on sharpening techniques and resizing.

I resize after making all adjustments, in case I need a full-sized version later for print or stock.
However, if you editing involves only adjustment layers and no cloning/re-touching, etc., you can save processor time and disk space by editing the smaller version, and then copying the adjustment layers back to the full-sized original later if needed.
You should definitely apply sharpening to the final, flattened image, after asll adjustments and resizing are done. |
