I recently bought a Panasonic LX3 as I wanted a P&S with PASM and RAW but also I wanted one that I could use for video as well, and the LX3 can record in HD. However, in HD mode, regardless of what size card you have in the camera (up to 32GB) it will stop after 2GB which is only 10 mins!!
I use the video on my car when I do track days and as the sessions are 20-25mins that's a bit naff! Has anyone come across any kind of work around? I'd be happy if it stopped and then just started a new 2GB file, I could then put them back together later even if there was a short gap. I emailed Panasonic a week ago and have had no response :( I could just use a lower res but then that kinda defeats the point of having a camera that can record HD!! It's a shame as I've got a wide angle convertor (not a panasonic one!) which gives the 35mm equiv of 10.8mm so the angle of view is awesome.
My first attempt of a video is on youtube ... the sound is rubbish as its just wind noise (I've now got an external sound recorder for next time, I'll sync them later) and there is way too much vibration so I need to make a platform for the camera and wide angle lens to rest on |

It's either the heat/noise sensor issue or the EC commission import tariff concern.

| An odd suggestion, coming from a still camera person, but perhaps a video camera, designed specifically for video, would be more of what you're looking for as far as this specific purpose? |

Yeah, I didn't really want to spend the extra money on a video camera that would be used a few times a year. |

Another odd suggestion - does anyone you know have a video camera they'd be willing to let you strap into a car? :-) |

I actually hired that one from the trackday company, it's a Superlight SV, 135bhp Rover K-series
I've actually got a 2.0 Westfield (215bhp) but my exhaust is 114dB and the noise limit at the circuit I was at is 100dB!! |

That looks and sounds like some serious fun. I am definitely envious.
This explains all your track shots. |
