WAAAAH!!!! I dropped my SB-900 on the floor, and now the entire red "screen" in front of the AF-assist "place" have shattered. It's working just fine, but I imagine using it at its current state is kinda dumb, so what do I do? Do I have to send it to repairs, or is it possible to buy a new "screen"? Have anyone one of you done something similar?

Same thing happened to my brother's SB800, but I found a replacement red lens in Ebay for him and it is working just fine. I wouldn't send it but rather try to find a replacement lens, perhaps directly from Nikon.

I was kindo hoping that would do, but I recently discover something that's loose, but it feels like it should be loose. I better call Nikon I suppose. I apreciate your help! Thanks a lot! |

So I went to fix it today, and I tell you this.... IF YOU EVER BRAKE YOUR AF GLASS AND FLASH IS WORKING FINE, TRY TO FIND A NEW ONE ON YOUR OWN!!!!!
I drove to the workshop myself to speed things up. I'm NPU registered (not that it mattered), so I was hoping that it could be fixed the same day. It did! Got fixed within the hour for 38$ extra. Fair enough since I need my flash. The guy who repaired it took charged for the entire hour as well, another 38$. And that's fair enough to being he is a craftsman and need to be payed. BUT... the sickening part is that the glass itself costed 3$...
To sum things up.... I drove 3 hours and payed almost 80$ to get some guy to clip on a piece of glass on my flash. Why the heck couldn't I do it my self... BUT! At least my flash is up and running again, and as a celebration of this I'm going to use it now to win this months free study! Harh harh.... |

So essentially you learned an $80 lesson not to break your flash? Sounds cheaper then other lessons that have been learned on this site.

Auch! As long as it works! I was thinking about the same for mine, but haven't had it all that long. I'm surprised it didn't break sooner than it did. For my duotone challenge I had the flash bouncing light from an umbrella which, due to the wind, hit me in the back of my head. Pretty hard as well. Model/GF didn't laugh at first (as a description of hard it hit). "Flash: unharmed (uptil now), umbrella: slightly damaged, but still working, head: heavy damaged, but also still working." |
