Hmm... rubbish start- probably people thought the grain didn't add to the image or something...

Comment please! I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong :s

I'm on a 4.42 with one comment that they couldn't find the grain. I thought I'd added heaps, but obviously not enough.

hmmm people are quiet harsh scorers on here. I guess we all have different opions and so on, do you think its possible that people that enter the comps give people a lower mark so they do better? I dont do that, but Ive never given a photo a 10 highest I think is an 8. but for me a 10 photo it basically has to be flawless.. it has to provide an emotion, be excellently composed, perfectly exposed, great use of focus and amazing lighting.. lighting to me is number 1 in a photo.

A lot of shots with pretty grain but does it add impact to the subject?

Exactly. I saw a lot of images that grain/noise did not have a very positive impact, or the added grain/noise was way over done. I could have voted them down but I chose to simply not vote on them at all. I voted on those that I felt met the challenge well. Of those, most were very well done.

I can't see them either, but if you go to your profile and look at recent comments you've received you can see them there.

Can't complain here but I should stop looking at the early vote patterns. The last 9 votes have averaged 6.1 and my score has dropped 0.5!

Very true and the best way to vote as there are many interpretations in where the grain should be,foreground, background, in the subject, all over, I believe it comes down down to what you say, most are very well done.

Well start off better than I have in the past few challenges. At least it is not in the fours.

Doing better than I expected, and I think it's just above my overall average. Hoping it will go up a few points. 5.3 or something would be nice.

I disagree strongly! You should vote on all images in the challenge. By passing on an entry that you don't like or felt that grain didn't enhance you may be actually lifting that entry up. I don't get this philosophy. Are you afraid of lowering your avg vote cast or something?

98% are free study with noise added and 50% of those don't even show visible noise. This site has some excellent photos, but these fall short. Ugh.

As I said earlier, meeting this challenge topic is easy, using the grain to actually enhance the shot is tougher. I'll be really interested in seeing your comments.

Dropped into the 5's overnight, but a click of the update button shows me still holding onto a 6.

This was at a solid 6 last night. My "From the Ground Up" entry has dropped a fair bit too.

Bah

I shall refrain from whining, however, as I knew this was not a "wow" shot ;-) Just need one person to get what I was trying to convey and tell me so and I'll be happy!
