I just recently finally started trying to use Camera Raw for my photos (yeah, I can be slow to change to something new but if something seems to be working why bother) and have come to apreciate some of what it offers. I am using Lightroom to download and sort through my pictures but am having some issues with the output. They look beautiful in Lightroom and after primary editing in it I open them up in Photoshop since I am more familiar with their fine tuning adjustments than I am right now with the ones in LR. The image comes into PS4 as sixteen bit and I go to "mode" to change it to 8 bit to create a jpeg for posting on the web. "Mode" also says I am in RGB but it does not have any seperate listing there for Adobe RGB or sRGB. I adjust the colors and levels or whatever and save as jpeg but when I re-open the image or post it, the colors look washed out and the image dull. I am viewing the photos online with Win Explorer.

Any suggestions for keeping the colors as I convert to jpeg? I do not encounter the problem if I do my RAW processing in PS4 and then convert to jpeg so it is something LR is doing and PS is not adjusting for. Thank you for any tips.

It's really easy to export as jpeg from LR. And the colour adjustments in LR are really quite friendly.

When loading into PS from LR the colour space will always be ProPhoto (LR only has one colour space) so when you open the file in PS you have to do one of two things, edit in ProPhoto or convert to your preferred colourspace.

It is almost always best to edit in the widest colour space with the most bits per channel. In this case, that would be ProPhoto and 16 bits/channel.

When you are ready to save for web just use the save for web dialogue. In there, there's a check box for converting to the sRGB colour space. Save for web will automatically change the bits/channel from 16 to 8 so you don't have to do that before sfw.

When you open your photo in PhotoShop, go to the VIEW menu, set your color space under PROOF SET-UP, and then (very important) under VIEW select PROOF COLORS. That worked for me when I was experiencing the same issue. Good luck.

Thank you for the suggestions. A little busy this week but I intend to give them a try. I still have a lot to learn about Lightroom but it seems simpler than Phothshop once you do pick it up.

Can I jump in here and ask my own Lightroom question. i too have just started using Lightroom.

I am finding that my settings are carrying over into each new photo I use in the Develop module. Are these settings (mainly sharpening) actually keeping the settings used in the previous image or do I need to reset with each new image.

thanks

There are defaults which apply to all images but if you change anything the only way the new settings would be applied is if you tell LR to apply the new settings through the Previous button in the Develop module or the sync button in the Library module.

Many thanks for that
