for my father-in-law ..
not feature laden
simple - real simple I.E. drag pictures in / make a title page / burn dvd
cheap would be good tooo.. free would be nice as well ...

/ i've used fancy ones .. Producer gold etc/..
to complex - it would blow him away if he saw so many menus ... & to many steps ..

also preferably not an off shore company // the main ones that appear on searches have flooded Google under several names
all originate from China // not interested in sending my CC number there (they also have piped up in recent discussions here ..)

Picasa FREE from Google...you can add music, title page, pan and crop transitions available etc...I think it creates a wmv file or you can burn to DVD

IrfanView can make a slideshow, but I haven't tried it so I don't know about features (or lack thereof).

Sorry - my father inlaw has a PC / to switch systems would not be viable

background - he took slides .. lots & lots of slides / but he is nearly convinced (after seeing a small slide show on the TV) that he can work with digital
we spec'ed out a camera / purchased it & just bought him a dvd writer
& now hes been on trips & has a pile of pictures ...
( he does not want to show the pics on the monitor - he wants it on the tv ..)
so now just looking for the software ...
