Just finished voting on 100% of the challenge (yayyy) and commenting on alot of them. This was a tough challenge to make something really stand out -- I mean, there's just so much you can do with an old car except show a nicely presented and processed old car. But I gave out 3 10's and lots of 9's and only a few 4's, so if anyone's score just jumped up, it's prob'ly me :) A few really did great with a tough subject!

It was a refreshing break from watching my score every second in the Ground Up challenge :)

Out of almost 100 challenges, I have two entries with absolutely no comments during the challenge.

With my entry in THIS challenge, I'm working on #3. Maybe that's a good thing in this case...

I have to say I'm a bit surprised at the low scores I'm seeing and hearing about.

I saw no dreaded DNMC shots. All of submitted images had cars in them, most of them were really old, some newly old, but all of them where old cars.

So given that old cars are in the frame, how can you justify giving a 1 or 2 to a shot that is roughly focused, not horribly processed, and is not otherwise offensive? Every time I get a 2 come in I want to grab the voter by the collar and say "See that thing above the wheels and below the sky? The thing that fills 80% of the image frame? That is an "old car"! A motorized vehicle that is not of recent vintage! I guessed you must have missed it."

It might be time to stop watching this thread.... if I can.

Hear hear! I am sulking cause I could have entered the kind of shot people expect to see. But of course I didn't, and though my shot is technically sound and artistic and definitely not DNMC, so my score is taking a beating and hovering around 4.6.

Maybe this is just going to be a low scoring challenge. I think some of the voters forget that our photos are submitted under the basic editing rules. We can only do so much to improve our photos. Regardless there are some wonderful shots that don't deserve the low scores they are getting.

Well, I'm dropping a bit more, but when the low votes are mostly 5's, that's a good sign. I expect voting to be lower after the first day. For me, the trend seems to be for more of the high votes to come the first day and the last.

Magic... lol

Basically if you monitor the scores as they come in you can calculate the individual scores you are getting.

One of the benefits (or curses, depends on your degree of obsession) of membership is a little update button in the lower left corner of you submissions. Updating your score allows you to track the current number of votes and average score of your submission. You can use that information to determine what each individual vote was as it came in using a spreadsheet.

If you get into it enough you begin to look like one of those science experiments, where the monkey presses the bar down and a treat drops every so often, so the monkey spends the whole day obsessively smacking that little bar. But at least you have real time information on how the brilliance of your submission is being overlooked, again!
