I was wondering.. how do you guys go out and shoot in your free time? For example...right this very moment, I would like to go take some photos. But what the heck to I take pictures of? I'm always asking myself this. There is no scenery around here.. no hills, no nothing.. I don't want to take pictures of flowers..or grass..or the junk I have in my apartment. I don't know many people here, I just recently moved here. So I don't have people to pose..(except myself) The zoo is getting old.. and I lack the reach of my lenses to get what I want there. So I end up sitting on the computer looking at pictures that I want to take..but can't because they aren't there. Pfft. The last time I went for a hike..I ended up with a load of chigger bites and some uninteresting photos of heavily wooded areas.
So, pretend you live in a medium population city (80,000) and you know nobody.. and your going to take a photo trip for the evening. Where do you go? There are no landmarks.. no tall buildings.. just heavily wooded very FLAT land..with occasional lakes that are surrounded by houses and private proporty (very few places for public access). |

This is what side challenges are great for! They give you some direction for everyday photographing. I surprised myself when I shot a ton of photos for a macro side challenge awhile back and I never left my home.
Hope this helps. |

Move to somewhere more interesting???????? :p
Can't say I have this problem, living on the edge of Melbourne, the city one way, the beach just outside, and always something different.
Maybe have a look in the "Where I Live" side challenge at some of the photos posted there as some of those people live in smaller areas. better yet, join in the side challenge for the last week that it is running and see what you come up with........
I am just about finished my SoFoBoMo book, so have been out with the camera alot over the last few weeks. |

is there anywhere within a reasonable distance you can go? sometimes i grow tired of photographing the same stuff, so i drive around and look for things. for instance, one of my favorites is to go take pictures of lighthouses. there are only a couple near me, so for the ones that are like an hour or more away i make a day of it and go explore a different area. |

I live in NYC and sometimes dont even know what to take photos of. Seems like you have photographer's block. I think you should just take the camera with you everywhere and just keep snapping. |

I'm actually dying to go to Caddo Lake.. but need someone to go with, to split the cost of a boat tour. It's a swamp..not exactly a place you can walk around freely=) Video (Caddo Lake) |

actually, that's why I joined DPC--was tired of shooting the same thing. Go look through the challenge histories -- they give you some interesting ideas. However, since the summer is busy, I'm not shooting things I want to--I'm only shooting challenges! (and not having much time to do that, either.) |
