I am kinda new to photography and about 4 months ago bought a Canon Xsi with a 2 lens kit... the 18-55 and 55-250.... I would like to combine both of these lenses into 1 lens. I love the 18-55mm but sometimes I definitely wish it could reach a little further. It just makes sense to me... i am going on a month long south east asia adventure and would like something that would cover most of this range and still be light on my shoulders and not have the burden of changing lenses all the time... so 2 questions:
1. Is this a good idea?
2. Suggestions for lenses?
Budget is say no more then $1000, but preferably cheaper
FYI... I also own a Sigma 10-22mm lens which i love... and am looking into gettin a macro sometime in the near future as well... probably after the trip... suggestions for that would be nice also
Thanks,

I daresay a lot of people will recommend the Canon 24mm-105mm f4 L IS
Not sure if thats quite in your budget, but you get an awesome lens with a relatively versatile focal length and F4 throughout the entire range isnt to be sniffed at. |

I have a friend who travels everywhere and he always has the EF 18-200 on his camera. There are of course compromises that have made on a lens with such a versatile zoom range, but over all the quality it produces are pretty high. |

Thanks FiveSeat - I understand that there are some comprimises but from waht I understand they aren't that noticeable to the untrained eye... which is cool for me! :D.... I was looking at that EF 18-200 as well as the Sigma 18-200 anybody have any comparisons... |

So my mother in law is going on a trip, knows nothing about cameras and would not want to change lens so I told her to get this:
//www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/tamron_18-270_3p5-6p3_vc_n15/
The image quality does not seem bad considering the range. It's light, easy to carry... It's not an L lens but from the reviews it's better then a lot of non-L lens and the range is great.
