Hey all,

Just a little help please....

I am looking to buy a new lens. I want something that can take good detailed shots of things far-ish away i.e. wildlife, but I also want something with excellent macro capability..... does such a lens exist?

Thanks in advance :)

Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon is cheap and is still good enough for me. Be sure it is APO-DG.

Keep in mind its not a true macro (i.e. you won't get 1:1 magnification of what you are shooting). However the macro mode does allow you to focus a bit closer and get a decent close-up shot. The other thing I have found with this lens is that the auto focus is slow and loud. That aside, its a pretty decent lens for the price.

I will second call that Sigma lens, my wife used to shoot with it. very sharp and nice contrast with a pretty good macro ability too, in UK this lens can be found for around £175 APO:DG version only the non APO is not very good IMO

Tamron do a lens in a similar range, I think it is a 70-200 but is a bit more expensive

Yes, agreed. For the price everyone should have one just because of the super high quality to dollar ratio.
