Create a collection (a smart collection is easier as you can specify the selection criteria based on keywords/dates e.t.c.). Then ctrl-A selects all in that collection. You can do it on the orig structure as well but I just find collections easier. |

I'm not sure what you mean by "new organizational stuff" -- do you mean actual photo edits, or your collections/keywording/star-ratings, etc.?
Either way, all of that data is stored in your catalog -- exporting the photo is unrelated. There is no "save" when comes to the catalog -- everything you do is stored in the catalog immediately. You can "undo" if you don't like something you've done or want to organize something differently, but there is no reason to "save" anything related to the catalog itself; it's always saved immediately and automatically.
There are two exceptions -- First, the folder structure for the source images themselves; LR has no control or influence over that when it's not running, so if you make any changes to that structure outside of LR, you'll need to "find" the photos again the next time you run LR. Even then, you won't lose any data about the photos, though (including your edits); you'll just have to tell LR where the photos have been moved to. Second, if you use XMP sidecar files -- that opens up a whole can of worms that's best left unopened unless you really need to deal with that.

I must admit I've been watching this thread with interest. I recently had to upgrade my laptop - therefore went the whole hog - got CS4 and LR 2. My first problem was I went from PC to Mac. I have spent a number of weeks learning the new system ( and yes - regardless of what people tell you - there is a learning curve with Mac's - not necessarily easy -just different, therefore a learning curve).
The second thing was CS4. I found it very different to CS2 - therefore another learning curve. By the time I got to Lightroom - I thought - stuff it, I'll just learn the other two (CS4 & Mac) and come back to LR when I've got more time to play. My initial reaction was much what people have expressed here - the other thing I hadn't worked out (and I'm sure it's just a matter of learning how) is the amount of screen real estate it seems to take up. |
