I got my lens today and tested at home with couple of snapshots:
100 mm

300 mm

Not so bad for a cheap lense!

The focal lenghts are good. A versatile range. My question is about the aperture. Starting with 4.5 you had a slow lens. It´s hard to get sports shoots with low light, IE. Your camera can compensate it with an high ISO up to 3600, can´t? In contrast you get 5.6 to full telefoto, this gives you a great, every day shoots usage. This kind of lens is very usaful to flash use, although that flash range be reduced by the apperture.
Congrats by your new lens!

The Canon EOS Digital Rebel has ISO from 100 - 1600. Believe it or not, 800 and 1600 are somewhat usable too.

Yeah, you are right. I´m a bit confused with Canon 10D, that goes to 3600.

Were those shots hand held?
This the lens that was recommended by a photographer I know. He said it is actually sharper than the Canon 75-300mm. I am still trying to decide myself.
What was the price? I believe it is about $100. more than the other(non IS).

With tripod and timer,of course, the speed is 1/6 at kitchen very low light.

Well, now that you know the speed of your lens. Is hour to test the optcal quality. Lens quality is meassured by optical components quality. Chromatic aberrations are the prime thing a low quality, and price, lens had a lot!
To test if your lens has a good ED or other quality low dispersion glass element, put a strong light source behind a piece o some light blocking material. Then take a picture of this. Enlarge it at 200% and see if the borders of light blocking material are purple.
Almost all lenses in the world creates a "Purple Fringing", but if you don´t need to enlarge your photo, and they are visible, you have a dispersive, cheaper, low qualilty glass. This glass provides less sharpened images and some color loss and a lot of purple finging with flash photos and strong backlights.
The best way to get it is to shot some tree leafs against the sun, that is the best light source of world! But a car´s high light is good to test too. Please do it and publish there to us.
