So, I traded in my Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 for a Canon 28-70 f/2.8. The lens was about $640 US, and I got a few hundred for my Tamron lens, so the total cost was around $450. I thought it was a great deal so I went ahead with it.

I'm a little surprised that there aren't more users that own this lens here at DPC. Is that because the 24-70 f/2.8 L has replaced it and most people have traded in their old 28-70mm lenses, or was the 28-70 simply never that popular. From what I've read about it, it's just as good as the newer version minus the extra 4mm of focal length.

What's the deal? I really love this lens so far :)

Yea, that's the one I just got.

It's huge and heavy, but it's worth it I think.

It's a great lens, but yes, I think most moved to the 24- when it cam out... I have the 28- and while I'm sure the 4mm would be useful, I very happy with my 'old' lens! =]

The 24-70's a more "modern" lens. It is using newer-generation flouride glass to control chromatic aberration, and it shows less barrel distortion at the wide end. Nevertheless, the 28-70 is a very nice hunka glass.
