Hi everyone,

I'd like to get geared up for the beach, some snorkeling or shallow diving. I'm leaving the DSLR on dry land. Currently researching a point and shoot I could put into one of those waterproof housings/cases. Going with Canon, I have a choice of their housing or Ikelite. Going with Panasonic, I'm probably stuck using a Ewa Marine bag //www.ewa-marine.de/index.php?id=17. As far as bags go they seem to be the best. Rated at 10m(30ft). So I'll probably be safe at 20ft? Anyone use a Ewa Marine product and happy with it?

Canon has their new PowerShot D10 cam, but I'd rather get a better general P/S and an underwater accessory to go with it instead.

Thanks for any tips :)

Buy a used G9 or G10 and the underwater housing. Both can be had for around $500 total investment and you will have a great P&S to use both in and out of water.

I just bought a D10 which should be here by Tuesday. If you like, I can try a few land shots and post them. From the reviews, its pretty good as far as point and shoots go...'Course, I'm getting it specifically for the -33'.

Thanks folks!

dahkota, it's sure a good cam. Corners are a tad too soft for me, for a cam I'd like to use often. I don't plan on going swimming with it everyday so I'd like something with nicer form. I could rent it as a 3rd cam, for a friend coming on a trip.

Matt, considering a G10 purchase for months. I just wonder how big it'll look in it's underwater case, if I get the Canon one. Thinking the smaller Panasonic or SD series might be better suited for that?

Nik, yeah I wonder how the Ewa Marine bag stacks up to the rest.

I don't see the canon underwater housing for the G10 right now but the G9 canon one gives the dimensions and it doesn't seem too bad. Link of course I don't mind carrying a 1DsMKII and 70-200 as a carry around camera. LOL

The WP-DC28 is available for the G10 //www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/587432-REG/Canon_3156B001_WP_DC28_Case_for_Canon.html . Ikelite have a g10 case but it's way out of my budget. Their housing costs twice as much as the Canon one, but you do have an optional wide angle dome attachement //www.ikelite.com/web_two/wd4dome.html . That's why I'm thinking I should get a Canon SD series and get an Ikelite case, as I can buy that dome accessory. It's pricey by itself //www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/590499-REG/Ikelite_6420_46_W_20_Underwater_Wide_Angle.html, but at least there's the option.

I don't mind shlepping around the 20D either(no comparison to a 1DS of course and with the big zoom on top!), it's earned its place ;) just not sure I want to take it into the water in a Ewa Marine bag or to places where it grabs too much attention. That'd be awesome if I could though but it's not an option this time.

It'd be great if someone here has used the Ewa Marine bag, chime in? ;) I'm not going more than 30ft deep and wouldn't mind saving the extra $$$.

Cool shots, Dane. So I finally got the G10! :D

Now to get the underwater case/housing. Not easy finding a shop that has the Canon housing in stock.

So odd, after initially purchasing the G10 to want to use it underwater I cant find the WP-DC28 in stock. I found just two places(one of them in Canada) but I won't get it in time for the trip. The other found locally in NY but even then they cant get it to me in 3business days which is odd. EBay is not an option as I'm totally unsure when I'll get the case.

I found one online location which has the Panasonic DMW-MCTZ7 underwater case for the new Panasonic ZS3, but can't find the ZS3 in stock. What a ride! 8)
