I figure it is some kind of regional difference.

In the US, a power bar is a specific type of snack used by athletes.

I asked for it to be changed because of the multiply references to the power bar snack bar.
I have a brand new one sitting here on my desk and it says "POWER STRIP" on the package. So I thought I was wrong.
Power bar /Power strip what ever you want to call them ,the point is that we all have them and I am sure a lot of them are on the floor. How many have morning coffee/tea at the computer ?
Bottom line is these things can be very dangerous and as I said in my OP I made a mistake.
It happened so fast ,and the smoke filled the room so fast !
So just hang them up of the floor to be safer :)

They're power bars here, too. Must be Canadian, eh? :)

We have those too, but the electrical ones came first, and we called 'em power bars first :)

eta; lol, apparently we Canadians can't make up our minds. I searched London Drugs, they listed 6 under "power bar" and 1 different one under "power strip". Futureshop listed 3 under bar and a different 1 under strip.

I usually call the ones we have Surge Protectors vs Power Strip or Power Bar. But I have heard them called all three prior to this thread.
