Old dog, new trick time.

From this tutorial: //www.planetphotoshop.com/background-animation.html , I got a few ideas and started goofing... and made these.

I've never played with .gifs before, so obviously I still need to work on subtlety. ;D

Lets see your animations!

This is an easier .gif tutorial for those just trying it.

Nice gifs, some are slower than others and look choppy though. The one with the flowers is the choppy one for me.

Too bad we can't print them. eheh

Cindi, how do you (and others of your ilk) do it?

I looked at those tutorials (thanks for sharing, by the way), and I think I'll be able to follow those steps.

However, YOU not only learned the process, but managed to come up with those clever ideas of your own.

I very rarely manage to come up with the ideas to take those principles any further than what I can copy, I always need to have my nose rubbed directly in it :-(

I don't think I'm entirely uncreative, but I sure have way more limitations than I'd like.

I love your examples, and I hope they'll inspire me to experiment. Thank you.

Gosh, thanks, Karin. Creativity is more about goofing and finding things that work than anything else. After I play around for a while I usually stumble on something "creative". Don't be afraid to goof, and even to make a mess... its all a learning experience. :D

Sorry Cin, but I think this is very 1995-ish...

I experimented last night and created my first animated gif . I want to be able to use it in emails, other web sites like Facebook and Flickr, but when I upload it to my photo album there, it doesn't animate. Also I tried copy and paste for adding it to comments, and that doesn't work either.

Any ideas on how I can use this like a little animated icon like smiley faces?

Can those be done with Elements? I use Paintshop Pro, which no longer includes animation studio to make them, but I have a coupon to get Elements for $50.

No idea, never used Elements. There are some stand-alone apps that can make them, though. Google will help ya. :)

Have you seen something like this before on the sites you mention? It's very possible that they don't allow the gif's to play due the possibility for abuse and annoyance.

Yeah, but there are a lot of tacky people out there who would love to have a photo of their special day pimped up like that.

I quite agree... not really the sort of client I'd want - but each to their own.

You so right about the tacky thing, Mark. Notice this thread is a year old. Not sure why its come up again now. When I learned to make them I was thrilled at learning a new trick so I played with the ones posted here. Haven't touched them since and never offered them to a client.

It came up because I want to know why the animation doesn't work on other web sites. Someone said the other sites might block them, because they can be annoying

Still I'd like to know how to use these animated gifs in emails and comments in general. Copy and paste doesn't seem to retain the animation.
