The local print shop by me and Mpix and others want photos in the sRGB color space. Ok great. I edit my RAW in LR2, and then export a jpg in sRGB and we're cool. Except that the colors are all different. After some research (yes still new at all this) I found Lightroom by default uses a ProPhoto RGB color space with an sRGB tone curve. So unless I export in ProPhoto RGB I no longer am editing in WYSIWYG.
I can export into Elements7 and deal with it there individually, but if I just want to edit in LR for simple stuff, is there a way to change the default color space?

| i'm not great at everything but i think if you just export your raw file to cs3 you can do what you want with it from there. if you just save as a tiff in lightroom won't that do what you want also? |

| Yeah that will work, it just kind of ruins the point of editing in LR. May as well not process anything in LR if it's all done in the wrong color space that you'll print to :( |

| Something is not right. Lightroom will export in any color space you wish, and your editor, if color managed and set up correctly, will display it correctly. If your editor is set to ignore the color space info on opening a file, then that is a problem. If you have "proof colors" checked in Photoshop, that may be a problem. If you did not select the sRGB color space in the Lightroom export dialog, and you are loading a Prophoto RGB file into Photoshop, then telling Photoshop "assign profile" instead of "convert to profile" that is a problem. |

I can select which color space to export from LR, that isn't the problem.
If I want to do 100% of the editing for the photo in LR itself, which sometimes is enough, it's default color space is Prophoto RGB. So I have the raw in LR, edit to what I'd like it to be, and then export as a jpg in sRGB space. In the conversion from a raw in LR under Prophoto to jpg as sRGB, some of the colors change (which is to be expected now I guess).
I was hoping someone had found a way to change the default color space of LR2 so this wouldn't be an issue, but after searching for a few hours it seems Adobe doesn't give you a way to switch it. This is pretty lame since it adds another step and forces you to edit in photoshop. Removes some of the appeal of LR2, even though it's great in everything else :( |

THat's true, I don't think that there is a way to switch the native space. It is also true that some colors that are reproducible in ProPhoto RGB are not represented in sRGB, which is a smaller color space. If you are seeing prominent color shifts, you probably have high levels of color saturation and luminance in your images. A little less agressiveness with saturation may be of benefit. I can say that I don't often observe very perceptible shifts, with the exception of images where my subjects have very high saturation.
You are correct that if you want to preview and customize how colors will be converted when converting to a new profile, then Ps is required. Perhaps this functionality will eventually work its way into Lr. |

| Thanks kirbic. This is also true I usually only notice big shifts when oversaturating some parts for effect. I will just have to modify my workflow if I want to get that affect to move outside of LR. |
