Congrats to JR and Katherine, and to Susan too ... truly enjoyed that banter!!
I did a biggie today ... I did my first bike ride in at least three years. Apparently the leg is well healed since it easily knocked out 22.5 miles! I was somewhat worried since I haven't trained very well (due to the non-cooperative weather, not my lack of ambition, OK maybe due to both). But I maintained a decent pace, finished, and did not immediately collapse. Top speed going downhill, of course, was a mere 28.3 mph. Yikes.
This charity bike ride was in memory of our youngest son's good friend who was in a fatal accident 11 years ago on a one-week charity ride. After the ride, and the picnic that followed, they gave out 8 scholarships to kids for college. Some of those kids have been thru hell and back and still came out well and now are getting a little help.
Fun day.

Wow! 22.5 miles on your first bike ride in 3 yrs?! Good for you! I've been a total non-bikeriding wuss lately due to really freakish weather/work/any other feeble excuses I can muster, lol!
And what a good cause it was for, too, so very good on you. Keep it up :-) |

Congrats, Jeanne!! That's a good day's ride, especially for a first day!
And snaffly, dear, I carry my camera often when I ride. I have a nice small narrow backpack (it's really one of those hydration backpacks) that I stick it in. So that's no excuse. :-) |

Go Jeanne! Cycling rocks! (I got hooked recently)
And yeah, a camera is perfectly carryable inside a camera backpack :p |

Speaking of cycling, I need to get off my ever-expanding derriere and get on the bike. I think I can safely assume it won't rain, at least not much, for the next hour or so... I need a couple of things from the commissary. And to return a rental movie. Which, by the way, was excellent. Very hard to watch (for me at least) but well worth it. Called "Taking Chance." I highly recommend it, but not on an evening you want to go anywhere afterwards since your eyes will be all puffy. |

Congrats Jeanne! That's quite a ride! I haven't even owned a bike for about the last 10 years, that's when my last one was stolen. They are kind of impossible to keep around here. Doesn't matter what kind of chain, what kind of lock, it will be gone. It was very frustrating when my daughter was in her low teens, she had a bike stolen about every 3 months. |

Congratulations Jeanne on your ride. I'm sure it's not going to be your last.

My house is too small for that. I live across the street from a nursing home, and it seems a lot of the time employees don't have bus fare to get home. LOL! The only bikes that haven't been stolen are the kids bikes (JR's). But he's getting bigger and therefore his bikes are getting bigger. We used to keep them in the garage, until they broke the door to get to a bike. Then we tried chaining them to the fence, they cut the chains, they cut the fence. Then we tried chaining them on our front porch. Still got them. Stephanie went through about 10 bikes as a teenager, plus mine and my husbands right after we moved in. I also had my car stolen from my driveway here. But that only happened once. We even had a Nascar tire stolen (souvenir that my husband bought at a race) from our garage. The funny thing is, it's a really safe neighborhood. |

Kelli, OMG do you ever have persistent bike thieves!!! Wow! Are there any used bike stores in your area? If there are, may want to simply buy the rattiest-looking bikes as needed from there so you're not shelling out for new ones. I've never owned a brand-new bike in my entire life! |

Hello all I would like to share something with all of you so that you might be able to avoid such terrors.
I've just had one of the most frustrating and hair raising experience in recent memory. I had to stand by and watch someone else "edit" my photos and I was unable to do anything about it :(
My wife decided to up load some of my photos that I took of Isaac at an industry awards gala on Wednesday night. He was asked to be a presenter and I took lots of photos. So she sat down and went
into the editing program and hit "smart fix" (egad, smart fix) for all the photos she liked and up loaded them, all the while I'm standing there thinking they don't need much to make them
better but "smart fix" just shoot me now. I know that these are not award winning photos but "smart fix" ahhh!!!!!!
So I hope this serves as a warning to all of you to lock you photos away from others so this painful scenario doesn't happen to you. Yes this should happen to you when you least expect it. I need a Gravol, my tummy feels sick :(

LOL! We actually tried that! I bought a couple from a flea market. It doesn't seem to matter to them. I really think they are just using them as transportation and then ditching them anyway. It's been a sore spot for years around here. But short of keeping them in the house (which we have no room for), it seems there isn't much to be done. It certainly made for some tears for my daughter over the years. We will be moving very soon though, so hopefully we'll end up in a bike friendly place. ;) |

LOL Max! And seeing as how it was your wife, I don't suppose there was much you could do. Such a helpless situation... :-) |

Oh Max, I feel yer pain...though if anyone but me edited my pix they'd probably do a miles better job than me, lol! BTW sending you a PM so don't go anywhere! Mean it!
Kelli...gawd that sucks. But if bike theft is the worst thing in your neighbourhood, be grateful I guess...hope you do end up someplace a lot safer soon. |

Having a hard time deciding on my entry for zoo. Anyone want to give some input?
(wait... if I ask team suck people, are you going to pick the best one or the suckiest one?) |

Sorry, wasn't implying that anyone would pick the worst to make theirs better. A couple of mine seem trite, but better than the unusual ones. I was just wondering whether trite was off limits. Many people in the group celebrate the unusual and different. :)
Ah well, my daughter is kicking me off the computer--if anyone's available for opinions later on, let me know.
thanks!

We not only celebrate the unusual, we embrace Out of the Box entries. The highest honor is a Posthumous ribbon. See this thread.

I don't know who each other is, just don't compete against me. I get emotional in unreliable ways...
