So I managed to grab an S5 for $650 off the FM buy/sell forums and it's getting here Tuesday.
What I'm wondering, though, is from several reviews I've seen that third party RAW converters don't work very with Fuji RAW files. Is this true, or has converters like ACR and Lightroom come far enough that they can handle RAW files from Fuji SLRs and specifically the S5? |

I use Graphic Converter with my mac for the RAW files, but I haven't shot any images in RAW since about 2005. The Fuji RAW files are about 34.5 meg each, so they gobble up a lot of drive space. It's not a big deal nowadays, since drive space is getting much less expensive.
If you get in a jam, I have a couple of the Fuji software discs that came with my S3's. The software program is rather cumbersome to use, as I am not that techy, and didn't want to have several image programs going on at once.
I shoot jpg, and edit basic, with mac's iPhoto most of the time now.
ETA, You did good to get the S5 for 650. I paid about 800 for my second S3 a couple of years ago. I probably haven't shot 500 clicks with it, as it is my back-up and loaner camera.

Thanks for the link!
And yeah, I was very surprised. It's got less than 500 clicks and comes with everything it would new, including the box. I can't wait for Tuesday!
But storage space isn't a concern of mine. Is Graphic Converter even still around? Did you get good results with it? |

I never used it enough to learn enough about it to get into trouble (G C.) I only use it now to resize JPG's that I want to enter in challenges. It allows me to save them without the fluff files, and to choose the file size that I need to meet the rules. My nephew Doug, who gave me the first S3 when he bought his Canon Mk, used Photoshop with Fuji RAW, so I know that works.
You can find his images at dougthompson.net

| Wow, he has some gorgeous shots. Do you happen to know which, if any, where taken with his Fuji (and not the Canon Mk)? |

The landscapes are mostly from Dec 05, which is the Christmas that he gave me his S3, so I think that it's likely that the Canon shot the ones in the landscapes album. Those are all HDR images. Some of those are hanging in the regional international airport and other places around the country. He was living about two miles from the location that most of those were shot at that time.
