Is this a great deal for a used camera? Below is the add posting in bold from craigslist. She is asking $700.00 for all of it.

Want to sell my Canon 450D so I can upgrade to a 40D/50D. Would like to sell this as a package. The camera + the lens it came with (Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS SLR Lens) + 8GB of memory. As well as all the original items, and the box. I'm willing to negotiate the asking price, but only accepting realistic offers. I can send pictures upon request.

Sounds high to me. A brand new Rebel XSi, with the lens, is only $700 from B&H. 8GB of memory would not cost much these days. If she were asking $600ish I might be tempted, but I think she's got an unrealistic expectation of what she'll get.

If it were me, I'd rather have a brand new camera - that way I know for sure what it's been through.

I thought it seemed high as well, just wasn't sure. Thanks for your input. I think I will pass...plus Id rather have a 40D/50D too!

Just agreeing with the others. That's what you can find a new one for now. In fact, I've seen new ones on sale for $650 recently.

And if you can get it without the kit lens, all the better. I'll bet that there are dozens of us who would part from ours much cheaper than you can buy one with the kit.

I believe if it is not 75% or less from the original price, it is not a big deal and better to get it new.
best of luck,

I think Canon has an "instant rebate" of around $50 - $100 on the Rebel XSi currently - check out canonusa.com
If you can stretch, the new 500D (Rebel T1i) kit just came out at $899 with the DigiMarc4 processor (similar to that in the 50D). Body only is at $799, which would allow you to put some more $$$ with it and get a better lens. Always comes down to more $$$, doesn't it?
