With the recent spacewalk bringing Hubble into the news I got to thinking about downloading some hi-resolution files to print for the wall in Caden's room. Being eight, he's all about being an astronaut these days. Poking around the .gov site I don't see an obvious place to find large files. Has anybody found them and printed from them before? |

NPR has a little slideshow where astronomers pick their own favorite images and has audio where they explain why. A good link

How big are hubble pics anyway? Now that I think of the age of Hubble, I'm guessing they might be pretty small... |

Just stumbled across this one: //www.spacetelescope.org
And here's the copyright info: //www.spacetelescope.org/copyright.html
And there's a variety of sizes/compression levels to meet your needs!

Some of them are huge, doc. I'm looking at one that's 200Mb in downloadable original. Some seem to be as small as 6Mb. A lot of them are stitched together, so they get really big.

ETA, that's actually the large *JPEG* LOL. The original is downloadable, 500Mb. It's stitched together from 48 exposures. It's the Carina Nebula shot.

Thanks for the IOTD link -- NASA must have more photo galleries than ... notice how they actually facilitate downloading their images? Quite the refreshing change in attitude ... :-) |

I am 38 and still all about being an astronaut (oh well one can dream).
I like the NASA IOTD, its great to see some of the old Apollo era images that are rarely, if ever, seen anywhere else. #115 is one of my favorites. |

Cool stuff indeed! It's great to see Hubble back to doing ground-breaking science, a task at which it has excelled. |
