Can anyone that have the MB-D10 or know how the blasted thing work please tell me what I have to do in order to get 8 fps? Do I have to buy batterys and chargers that costs about same as the darn grip itself to boost the fps? Will 8 rechargable AA batterys do the same trick? Didn't knew this until today as I was setting out to buy one.

yeah 8 AA's will work for the 8fps. If you decide to get the EN-EL4, you will also need to buy the BL-3 battery compartment door.

Thank you! Any reasons for why I should use the EN-EL4 if 8 rechargables will do the same trick? And do I need one or two of the EL4 to boost the fps? These are questions I didn't find answer for on the net, thus troubling you find people =)

The EN-EL4a is Lithium-Ion, I don't think you can buy AA sized Li-Ion rechargeables yet... And it has some fancy charge counter and in-camera battery status indicator thingies :)

If you travel a lot, it might be easier to drag along one extra EN-EL4a instead of eight AAs...

ETA: You'll only need one EN-EL4a. Unless you want a spare.

Thank you! That cleared up a few things

You just need one EN-EL4. This test of batteries found AA performance on par with the EN-EL4, @ around 2,000 (keep in mind this is in addition to the normal life of the EN-EL3).

With the AA's I get about 250 photos per 8 pack, woth good rechargeable batteries. With the EN-EL4 you will get more than 1500 photos per battery most of the times.

Be aware that you shouldn't be tempted to buy the EN-EL4 batteires from another manufacturer that is cheaper than Nikon. I did this and ha dto return them because it didn't work.

250? What mAh are they rated? 250 sounds absolutely pitiful.

I use rechargables on my SB-800, and I've had the same one in there for God knows how many pictures. Discardable only lasted half a day of shootin, at maximum. I don't believe rechargables only last for 250 photos. When I get the MB-D10 I'll check it out. Gonna try it with the rechargables I have and see. If that sucks, then I'll go for the EL-EN4. Can post a reply here when I do. First off I have to buy another external flash it would seem, and also pay for a carcrash I was involved in. Wouldn't it be nice to be sickening rich?

Sorry to hear about the misfortune. Hope you're physically intact and it's only a matter of bills, not personal health, that you are dealing with.
I second the 250 shot doubt. I've considered getting the grip, so I'd surely be interested in what your personal experience is.

Indeed. When I shoot Steelers games, I have shot well over 1,000 shots without the battery indicator going below full.

In an attempt to put an actual number on things, if available, what mAh are your batteries?

My accident is almost the kind where you wish for a little bit more dramatic crash... I scratched another car while parking which costed me roughly 500$ (belive that price for a small scratch I probably could've repainted my self...), so a 2nd flash comes first because of a major photoproject. Need more light. BUT, the minute I have bought and tried the grip, I will share my experiences with you.

Anyway, my thoughts before buying the grip is this:

I already have 8 rechargables that I use for my flash, and I still haven't recharged the first 4. So I have nothing to loose trying that first. And if that works, it's probably better to invest in a spare batterycompartment loaded with another 8 rechargables. Keeps it simple to take along with you, and it costs under half the price of one EN-EL4 battery. SO why bother...

What kind of batteries do you use alanfreed?

I'm just using the Energizer 2500 mAh (or possibly 2450) NiMH. Nothing extravagant :)
