Didn't know anything about either problem until I saw the info on Digital Photo Review's site..

I haven't seen either problem the banding or magenta cast when shooting at ISO 1600 (who the hell would shoot @ 1600 with that tiny sensor?), but I can't decide if I should send it in or not? I guess I should for when I try to sell it down the road, but it seems silly to waste some technician's time and to be without the camera for a couple of weeks for problems I'm not experiencing. The magenta cast can be fixed via firmware update.

FYI
Canon links to problems...

I have this camera. Thanks for the info, Steven. I wasn't aware!!
I would most definately send it in if mine is one of the bad batch. I'll check it when I get home.

FWIW I had to send my Canon back for an update a few weeks back, they picked it up on the Monday and fixed it and returned it by the Friday (with a sensor and body clean thrown in for good measure).. so whilst its annoying they are pretty quick - although they may push through `pro` bodies a bit faster than P&S.

I don't seem to have any issues with mine (I have 2 in the serial number range) but then both are converted IR cameras!

Mine wasn't within the range that had the issues. And since ISO 1600 is nearly useless on it anyway, I wouldn't have bothered - it's not worth being without it for a week, IMO.
