I have been asked to take on the website of UPP (United Photographic Postfolios). I have some ideas of my own on how I would like the body of the site to look and function.
One of the suggested requirements is that there is an area for members (coupleof hundred) to display their images for review and comment. However, I would like the members to be able to do this themselves as I do not have the time to do this for them. Obviously, something like Flickr would be the type of thing to use as it's quite easy to upload images. I feel that something a little more 'professional' would be required. I know that sites like Smugmug are available but are they suitable for 'novice uploaders' as Flickr?
Any help, advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, in advance...

I've used PBase for several years and like it a lot for display purposes. Very easy to upload. |

Thanks for the pbase tip. I'm disappointed that out of all the readers here that nobody seems to have any useful advice or maybe it's just that I asked the wrong question! |

I have uploaded some pictures using Picasa web albums to my Gmail account. I havent played around with it too much, but I am sure you can make these albums public, or share them in a google group. Its completely free as well, unlike PBase.
But, that being said, I prefer Flickr over Google Groups.
Here is what I have on Picasa:

Printing sites such as the Kodak Gallery usually provide a means to invite others to view and comment on your photos.
I used to use MyFamily.com which has (had) some cool features, like automatically sending out an email to everyone on a list when new content is posted. It's all very customizable, and not too expensive. It is designed to facilitate communication among members of an affinity group. |

Thanks - few more suggestions. Somebody has tipped me off about smugmug, although as far as I can tell it's not really designed with the purpose that I ahve in mind. It seems to be more for galleries and selling.
Has anybody tried smugmug as a Flickr substitute? |

Gallery is a pretty good package. Its fully customizable and open source so you can get all the free help and addons you need. |
