ahhh the joys of looking at blue windows...

i used to love trying to figure out what the errors codes meant - while at the same time not having a computer to look them up on...

as far as reloading win98 every six months - it was standard practice as far as i'm concerned...

i suppose if i didn't use the computer it wouldn't have been required - but alas i did use the computer for computer stuff - you know... ?

oh wait - i better shut up or she who should remain unnamed is gonna rip me a new OS ! :)

Downloading it now.

Actually, I'm going to install it on my iMac.... ;-)

(In virtualbox, for laughs)

I have an OS/2 Warp box on the bookshelf here. It required a massive 8Mb of ram, iirc... :)

niiiiiice :)

I would love to hear Rugman's views on Windows "Me" considering hes quite the 95'/98' fanboy

and for the record Vista has its faults like any OS but as long as its properly configured and your hardware wasnt bought out of the back of a van down in the Quickie Mart parking lot then you should be alright...

Im currently running on my own personal network: Windows 2000, XP Pro, XP Pro 64bit, XP MediaCenter Edition, Vista Ultimate, Vista Ultimate 64bit and Vista Home Premium and they are all running FAR better than 98', 95', Me, 3.11, 3.1 EVER did...

*ETA* Running windows7 64bit now as of this afternoon :)

HEHE

Well after some initial playing with Win7-64bit last night, OMG it is soooooo nice, its fast, stable and the really weird thing is if "feels" like M$ actually put a LOT of thought in to the functionality of the new OS. This could very well be the best OS yet but only time will tell. But so far Adobe Web Suite Premium CS4 with PS CS4-64bit and LightRoom 2.3 64-bit wow are they quick, and this is just on my laptop, cant wait to fire it up on the desktop!!

Unfortunately I dont have any real experience with Premiere, its one of the few Adobe apps I never really liked so Im hesitant on giving any sort of opinion, Im currently using Vegas Pro for my video work. If you are going from a 32bit OS to a 64bit OS and the software is 64bit as well then you should notice a bit of an increase in performance, on average there is a 5% to 20% increase in performance but again that is with 64bit apps as well. Some 32bit apps can actually run slower on a 64bit OS due to the 32bit emulation...

Im still loading and configuring software on my laptop but I should be able to give a better review in the next couple weeks on the performance and stability of windows 7 but so far I love it, more so just for the interface enhancements at the moment...

Doesn't it seem odd that, after only a few days, it's that apparent that this is really a better OS? I agree completely on the interface changes, very positive in all. It's also good to see that I'm not the only one observing that apps like Lr and Ps seem more responsive.
I did find one thing that wasn't quite perfect in the transfer of device support. We lost "pen flicks" support for the Wacom Intuos 3 tablet, although the tablet was otherwise working fine. I noticed that Wacom had updated the drivers back the end of April, so I just installed the updated drivers and flicks were restored.

Sweet - I'm going to have to pluck up some courage here and install this, I've had enough catastrophic disasters with Vista that anything is going to be better at this stage.

Yea I know, Im drooling at the thought of really digging my claws in to this OS :)

One thing I especially just LOVE is moving maximized windows from one monitor to the other. Just grab the bar at the top and move it to the new monitor and when the pointer gets close to the top of the screen it maximizes for you! unlike previously you had to "restore down" drag the window over and maximize again. And if you drag the window and touch one of the sides then it rescales the window to half the screen. Ive gotta stop there as I could go on and on about the new little tweaks that decrease the number of previous steps which can drastically increase productivity!

OO One more thing, try having a few windows open, grab the top bar on one of them and give it a shake... poof everything minimizes, shake it again and everything gets restored... COOL :P

Ah yes, this is something I noticed right off. I thought that was fantastic. You beat me to mentioning it.

The name calling is an inside joke. kenskid will probably tell you about it if you ask him. It actually originated from another site, and I couldn't resist hitting him with it. I'm sure he was laughing when he saw it. He would be the only one I would call names.

Skid,
Let me tell you something Beavis,
VISTA SUCKS DONKEY DOO!!!! Requires too much resources to run, and not particularly stable. Win 95 & 98 were two of the better ones. Not quite as user friendly as XP, but were pretty damn stable. I don't know why someone said you had to re-install every 6 months, but I never had that problem. I have heard to stick an XP disc in every now and then, but I don't know why. I have never had to do this either. I guess if you are not to computer literate, and get a bunch of junk in there, and not keep up with cleaning it out on a daily basis, then I guess you will have problems. An alternate universe? You have got to be kidding me. Next thing you'll be telling me that Linux is the way to go. Wake up!!! Microsoft has sucked for years. I wish I was in an alternate universe where Microsoft actually put out solid products on a consistent basis. This has been going down since they integrated DOS into Windows. DOS RULES cd\ !!! Windows 7 is probably just a Vista update with a lot of fixes.

OMG LMAO Im laughing way to hard to reply ATM.

BTW what is it with you and the name calling?
