Cambs is only just up the road from me too so if it is not a private party I would love to join...

Improved from last night, thankfully. Thanks for the nice comment, too.

Not sure whats up with DPC votes recently, like if the voting numbers from 6 to 10 disappeared,
You have rated 126 of 126 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 4 images (3%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.6746.

He's only cast 95 votes, I doubt he's pulling down your score. Just saying.

What's the point of having 10 numbers to use if you don't expect people to use the full range? If EVERYTHING is worthy of at least a 4, 4 becomes the new 1. just try to take the low votes in stride, they are going to happen.

btw, i very rarely give a score of 4 or below, but that's just my voting style. other people are different, but if they are consistent it all comes out in the wash.

Possibly only 95 votes but that could be because a lot have been scrubbed, the point wasn't that he could be bringing down mine or anyone elses score, it's that if anyone thinks 1.95 is a fair average given score and represents the quality of images at this site then I guess they are in the wrong place, no?

ETA: Spelling

that's a good point about the scrubber. i wasn't trying to sound confrontational, so i hope i didn't come off that way in my first post. i really can't explain why someone would vote that way. again, he's not using the full scale, which to me doesn't make much sense. if you're only going to use 3 of the 10 numbers, you might as well use 8, 9, and 10. anyway, i'd be just as suspicious of someone with an average of 8.95. at least when the low voters vote gets scrubbed, your score goes up ;)

but my point is, if he gave an image that won the blue a 3, and the image that won the brown a 1, and all the pictures in between a 2, then his votes really didn't have an effect, right? I don't know how the scrubber works though, does it just wipe out all of a person's votes on every picture in the challenge, or just the pictures where the low vote is an extreme outlier?

hopefully when i get around to voting in this challenge, your scores will jump a bit :)

Not totally sure on the scrubber myself whether it scrubs all votes from that user in that challenge or just the extreme ones, and no you didn't come across as confrontational :)

I'm slightly aggrieved atm as I was holding on to 3x 6.3+ scores in the side bar and now I have 2x 6.4+ and 1x sub 6 which has 4x amazing comments and at least 4x10 votes.... grrr I knew I stopped tracking scores for a good reason

ETA: My pathetic initial spelling again ;)

Maybe he doesn't understand the scoring system.

I am going to have to believe you are kidding there, because if you seriously think someone could not understand a 1-10 scale scoring system I would have to wonder what the world is coming to ;)

The way I vote '' surely not a rule for everyone ''.

1 = Don't use, if a picture deserves 1, I simply ignore it.
2-3 = Has to be really bad, nothing technically right about it, out of topic, no creativity .. etc,
4= Bad but still meet topic.
5= Ok
6= Good
7= Very good,
8-9= Impeccable, but doesn't have the wow factor,
10= Impeccable and has a strong wow factor.

This is how I would see the scoring system. That̢۪s said, giving 1-3 to a picture, that finished with 6+ .. hmmm .. no comment,

my second contest entry.... not gonna cry about it.

also i do give very low scores for a few things that i see sometimes. like; something that is a good photo but not on topic. or a date stamp in the picture. or a photo that is cropped to the point it gets blurry.

on the note of scores, on a 1-10 scale, 5 should be average. so, to never or rarely use 1-3, then your not using 5 as the average. just the same with a low voter.

Not to belabor the point, but 5.5 is actually the average of scores from 1 to 10. So, you are better off rounding up and giving a 6 for an average score...

Now back to the scoring thread.....

And my score keeps bouncing up and down like mad...

Heh, damn you and your realism bassbone, there I was thinking I was exactly on the average, when I'm actually 0.5 below the threshold... :p

At 4.9 I might get out of the basement yet.

After having 3 entries here for the entire 2008, I'm now looking at 3 photos in my update frame...
I kinda missed the update button.

By the way, the difference between those challenges from before and these current ones is comments here: before it used to be the trolls. Now we have created a completely separate class of people and we call them "early speed voters". Is that bad? For example, I do not think, looking at this challenge, that all photos are worth 6.1 average. This is not DPC reality. Yet this is the average score I gave during my 30 minutes of voting earlier this morning to the whole challenge. I am a speed voter you may call it, but I'm also pretty sure were I to remove my scores, your would have dropped a bit from your current average.

If you're really suffering from low score symptom, do what I did now: enter two challenges and run against yourself: my darkness entry leads my free study entry 5.7857 : 5.6991. The table shot is lagging at 5.0357.

btw, that's what those shots are worth here at DPC. I don't care - I like them all and would have given them somewhere between 5 and 9.

At least one person loves it ;-) Not either one of the commenters, but a fave's a fave!

Mine dropped an entire point today. And I got a negative comment from someone who also slammed another one of my challenge pics. I appreciate constructive criticism since I have joined this site in order to improve, but to write an entire paragraph doing nothing more than slamming my image, without any indication of anything done right seems harsh. He must really hate my style since that has now been the case on two very different photos of mine.

Really disappointed so far. I don't seem my photo as at all near a 5.5 image. I have received some very nice and helpful comments on it- thank you very much to those people.
Not dark enough? I am definately kicking my Free Study entry's hind end. That is at 4.78- it was too dark according to comments. That one I was not sure how people would respond to so that is fine. It is just that this one is one of my favs for the year so far- but I am probably biased on that! I tend to follow AmeedEl-Ghoul 's voting style. I did get one 10 and nice comment in the early going. Is everybody mostly voting around five this time? I would rather have fewer votes if it means they are more realistic but they should even out even if the numbers are not as high.
