I got a new macbook, the aluminum version, and I was trying to do the migration from my iMac to the macbook. Everything seemed to be running fine, but it now has been stuck at "less than a minute remaining" for close to an hour. Does anyone here know what I can do about that? Is it actually stuck or is it doing something? The blue bar keeps moving, and the macbook makes a slight boink noise every 5 minutes. Any ideas?

Do not let either computer go to sleep during the migration. Make sure Energy Saver is set to Never (sleep). If the progress bar is moving, i'd rather wait it out. BTW, how have you connected the two units, ethernet or wireless? I believe your new macbook doesn't have FireWire ports...

Migrations can be swift or take quite some time depending on what you've chosen to move.

Thank you! They were connected via wireless. It worked after all, although I don't know how, because after a while I simply turned them both off. Then I restarted the macbook, and it went through the whole riggemarole again of setting it up, but I didn't do another migration, and when the screen actually came up (the desktop), all my stuff from the iMac was there! Well, not "all", but most. :)

Sometimes I think I still expect things to be complicated, when they actually work in these Mac computers!

Thanks again!

Glad to hear, things came together in the end. I had feared your palms were getting clammy at the time of your posting. ;-/
