I have a feeling people enjoy doing this...so here goes
The firstone was pretty large, larger than a pigeon, about the size of a small crow

That is a Jay, a member of the Crow family.

Second one is a Chaffinch.

nothing to usefully add except that the second shot is specifically of a male chaffinch, the female has much more drab colours.

Just some general suggestions for anyone posting critters for ID;

Geographic location

Habitat ( evergreen forest, marsh, open grassland, etc.)

Rough size

What it's doing

Any details you noticed that the shot doesn't show, such as eye colour, patches visible when it fles, song, etc.

Of those, location (as in real estate) is everything :)
