With only 65 entrants even if I get the brown it would still be my 4th best placement. LOL

Grrr... I thought my score was going all right, then I updated and had 3 new voters - dropping my score because their average was 3.67 (maybe a 3,3,5; or 2,4,5; or even a 1,5,5 - either way at least one of the votes was low) I know it is pointless to waste my energy on it but I so do wish those who feel it necessary to score so low at least leave a comment explaining why they did so, so I can learn from it and make my future photographs better. Oh - only in a perfect world I guess.

Grrr...

I agree - it's only a matter of courtesy.

Having said that, it's interesting that there appears to be a common theme running through the images - almost as if a group of submitters got together and decided to use a particular object as a theme as a sub challenge within the challenge.

Very interesting.

Just finished the rating pass -

Stats: You have rated 65 of 65 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 8.2462.

Comments pass tonight after I finish cleaning the garage. :>)

Later,

Tom

First vote last night was a 3! And, of course, no comment. Was very pleased to wake up this morning and find it was over six-and favorited! I'm stoked to have it doing so well since my last entry was a total disaster. Hanging pretty steady at this score all morning. Really great and helpful comments too. At least some people know how to give feedback!

Wow. This is the biggest jump in score that I've ever got! Started at 4.667 now 6 hours later I'm at 5.04. Still not a great score but it's been rising all day.

So what are you studying for Rachel

Eventually I hope to be a registered nurse. Right now I'm knocking out prerequisites and general ed classes and just generally having a great time. I put off college to get married and have kids, which is a decision I've never regretted, but now that the kids are a bit older I'm really enjoying learning again. :)

FAR AND AWAY my best score ever. In my prior days of DPC obsession I was stoked if I got above a 6 -- I mean SERIOUSLY stoked, as in when the day came that all my top 4 were over 6 I did a little dance. It's all going to be downhill from here. :)

Glad you're enjoying your studying, although by the looks of that score maybe a career in photography is in order lol

Scores up and down all over the place. My first vote was a 4, arrrrgh.. It's kind of crazy as my last challenge was a bland copy of an old studio based idea which resulted in a great score. This one was much more satisfying, is more creative, but as expected the score is a bit Marmite. Each week is a dilemma, do I chase a good score with a well executed studio shot or be satisfied with pushing my creative boundaries and accept a wider standard deviation in the scores. Maybe one day I will learn enough to do both!!

That dilemma is why I like side challenges better than regular challenges (although regular challenges definitely have their place and have taught me A LOT) and also why I took a nearly-two-year break from participating in DPC. It probably does us good to do both -- the people-pleaser shots and (of course) the creative ones. But it IS discouraging to take a picture that you LOVE and watch other people receive it less than enthusiastically.

As much as I love photography, I never want to do it professionally because then there would come a time, I'm sure, however brief, when I hated it and wished I'd never owned a camera in the first place. I want photography to continue to be pleasant and relaxing and completely voluntary. ;-)

Thinking of quitting altogether. I cannot seem to get out of the 4's. Maybe I just need better equipment, but I am frustrated by my poor performance. Guess I thought I had a good eye. I seem unable to translate that into good photography.
