I bought a green screen backdrop a few months ago figuring it would give me more flexibility in choosing what background to put behind someone in headshots or potraits...

But now I need to find a source of royalty-free backgrounds. I actually just need a few of the "traditional" studio muslin for portraits, then I can shoot other things like brick walls, and use my own landscapes, etc.

I did find one commercial source of background images, here...

//fxhome.com/backdrop/studio-1-and-studio-2

It's not too expensive, but they actually don't show you pictures of the backgrounds included!

Does anyone know of a source where there's some free ones available that I can just pick or choose a few? Or would anyone with a nice muslin backdrop be willing to shoot a pic or two of it and send it to me (next time you are set up to shoot someone with it) with the lights but without the people? (If so, thanks in advance!)

I'm still working on how to do the masking well, but here's my second "try" at adding a background (this one just an extra shot I had of a pond):

Thanks--I missed that! That was a work link, LOL. At least it wasn't a link to my bank account!

Bump...anyone up for shooting a pic of their muslin background and sending it to me (full res)? (No rush...just want to see if anyone's willing!)

Here's a link to some. You would need to download them to see what they are though.

muslin

Here's a link to some cool digital backgrounds that are approved for commercial use.

I have more, but I'd have to dig it out. LOL!

Yes--actually, I have a black one and a white one too (I bought a set). I should have said I am looking for one of those ones you see in studio shots with a non-solid background.

Thanks Kelli!

Unfortunately, when you click on one of the links on the first link, you get "This user is out of bandwidth"

The second set is very cool. But too small for fullsized BGs.

But they gave me an idea for another search term... "digital muslins", which at least turned up another vendor at ebay.

I think I might have those downloaded, but I'll have to check. If I do I'll zip it up and send it to you.

I just went through my folders, and unfortunately I must have downloaded these to my old computer, which means I don't have them anymore. I'm not positive, but I believe the bandwidth issue should clear on the 1st (so much allotted per month or something like that). I know they did work, and they were nice. So try back then. I'm going to try back then too, since i don't have them anymore.

And if you want to buy on CD, here's a site (that I know was offering at least some free before) but has good prices...

I found this site which has some nice sets...but it made me think:

Are some of these digitally rendered versus photographed? (It looks like it). Does it matter (I think it might!)

I sent them a note. But now I wonder about others that are for sale...

Those are quite nice! Thanks. They do look computer rendered though. But at least now I can try and see how they look as a replacement BG.
