Instead of throwing my uninformed $0.02 US into the mix, I'm going to wait to see what kind of explanation there might be....

Does sharper mean older?

No, I can tell you from personal experience that old crayons are nearly always dull crayons...

Hmmm Okay. Yesterday I did a 12 hour shift and got home very tired and sore. A friend of mine on FB (who also happens to be friends with other DPC'ers) jumped online last night very excited as his book has just been released. I asked him if I could share the news by starting a DPC thread. He was flattered. I asked him what his username is and he said that as far as he was aware, he hadn't actually joined but usually spends many an hour going through the images on here. In other words he is a fan of DPC, just not a regular competitor. Does that make him less worthy of our congrats?

Maybe I should of worded my OP differently. I didn't think a genuine post would be considered to be spam. I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused any of you. I certainly hope this doesn't discourage this DPC fan from continuing to enjoy this site....even from a distance.

And for the record...I am still on my first cup of coffee....so don't push me....I am already cranky! LOL!

Just wanted to add...I love a good news story...and I thought you all might as well.

Of course she did: she's all about shaving heads, and there's the thrill when the head's already bald?

Hello everyone, My name is Erik Hawkinson, the author of the book, Journey of a Thousands Words. I am truly sorry if members feel Judi shouldn't have posted a success story on a new member..but I've been a FAN member of your group on FACEBOOK for a while and have been admiring the site. I have just finished traveling and now that my book is published, I will spend some quality time on the challenges. Judi was gracious enough to ask me questions about this and I am forever thankful she thought it would be appropriate.

After seeing all the hard work she has put into this, I personally think Judi deserves more credit than she has gotten for her actions. It's of course, up to you, if you feel I don't deserve "free press", I would understand. But as photographers and artists, don't we have that creative bond that roots for one another? I know I do.

As long as I find interest in someone from my many international photo communities over the years, I am always glad to add a link, forward an email, add a comment if it helps someone. I will do it for you as well. After putting together something from your portfolio, your soul and your hard work...looking at timing of the membership seems mute.

I due fully respect everyone's opinion but for today to be the FIRST day I have ever been published, I'm not sure you can truly taint my excited state of mind and I am looking forward to seeing all of your work and be a part of this great community. I hope you will accept my thoughts on this matter.

Yours respectfully,

Erik

I posted earlier today and glad you chimed in, IMO it was perfectly OK for Judi to do what she did and new member or not its a great thing to be published and you deserve congratulations. I was going to touch on some of the negative posts above but I have more important things to do :)

So Grats to you Erik and welcome to the DPC Family and high five to you Judi...
