eBay has already made billions more than all the pirates in history combined, and they did it using business practices that would make most pirates blush with shame.
Keep those eBay/PayPal crooks and give me a bunch of pirates any day. :D

And neither have I. I wonder what the triggers are? They are not clear from the below linked article although it states that an account has to have some form of negative rating or be new or seldom used. |

Ebay now owns Paypal...this might have already been pointed out, but Paypal gets theirs without the use of Ebay also.
I sent a fellow DPCer something from the states, to be paid via Paypal and they took out a large percentage just for using the service. They make their money off of the money sitting in our accounts, regardless of how long it is there.
When I worked for the credit card company years ago, there was a huge article about this very thing and that the Paypal accounts people had with money just sitting in them, Paypal was banking off of!! (No, pun intended...sortof) ;P
I've been told Yahoo has an auction site, too, but I've never checked it out. I'm completely over Ebay and Paypal. |

Well, I'd forgotten this thread until this morning when I found out I was the subject of a paypal/ebay f&*king. I'm unfortunately being forced to liquidate my photography equipment due to lack of funds. So I sold a couple of lens last night on eBay and find that the payment has been frozen. So a question for those who use eBay: I'd heard that PayPal was the only option now. That sellers couldn't ask for any other type of payment. Is this true? I have a number of other items to sell but with this development I now have nowhere to sell them. No matter what you say, eBay is the biggest market for used goods. I post forsales here and on other photo forums and have never even had a reply. I suppose I could post on Craigslist but I don't think that's going to be much better. What's really weird is that right after they made the change I sold a 1500 buck radio and it went thru like s#$t thru a goose! No hold or anything. And a good thing too, as I NEVER HEARD A WORD FROM THE BUYER. That tool purchased a 1500 buck radio off of eBay and never emailed me or left any feedback, just paid within seconds on PayPal. I guess since I only have 84 feedback that's the reason I'm being shafted by PayPal. Well, I estimate that I've completed 200 transactions on eBay. Only 84 buyers bothered to leave any feedback. LOL So........ looks like I'll be eating beans for the next month, so I can afford to purchase shipping and insurance out of my pocket to ship the lens I sold. Oh, and to make things even juicer, about a second after the buyer purchased my lens he was emailing me demanding a shipping discount because he purchased both items. So I guess since buyers are king now he can dink around with the items when he gets them and wait about a month and demand a refund.
If anyone has any ideas for alternatives for selling photograpy equipment I'd like to hear about them. I hesitate to put the rest of my kit on shitBay. |

You can accept methods such as bank transfer / cheque (check to those in the US) / money order etc but you MUST also accept paypal that's their poxy terms unfortunately. Guess what most buyers will choose to pay with?...
About posting on here and getting no replies etc, I sometimes feel people put items on here without much discount then when they get few replies or bites they go to ebay and sell for whatever the auction runs to, they are then at the mercy of those buyers who can demand a full refund for up to 45 days by filing for a SNAD (significantly not as described) or worst an INR'd (item not recieved) if the postal service fails to get a signature. Personally I would prefer to sell on here for the absolute lowest price I will accept and even if that is less than I might get in an auction at least I know there's a much better chance that the person I am dealing with will be honest and very unlikely to rip me off with the SNAD claim. Now this isn't an immediate solution as obviously even selling on here the easiest way to accept payment is paypal but if you price it right someone in your area may well be interested?

Then people should understand that the selling process is a two-way
street. I'm not going to sell a lens worth 300 bux for 50 bux. When the potential buyer is interested they should email an offer. Without communications you can't find the final price. Everything I post here is "Asking Price". You could offer a penny and I'd reply.
So shyness is no excuse. :) A penny won't get it but the sell point might be a lot lower than my asking.
But, I suspect the real problem here is community size. Probably a couple of thousand active DPCers. Millions of eBay'ers. Nobody is interested in what I've got to sell. But.... I'll post what I've got left tonight. I won't bother with the tripod as I've already posted that here. |

Did they say why the payment was frozen? I've never had that problem with ebay/paypal.

Because I didn't have over 100 feedback in the last 6 months.
I never will. I don't make a living on eBay I just buy/sell
personal items from time to time. So I have to wait 21 days
or until I get positive feedback on the item, or I can show
tracking info that indicates the package arrived and was signed
for at the destination. BTW I've got 84 feedback, all positive
because I always treat my buyers like I'd like to be treated.
Pack it well, ship it quick. And I also have never had this problem with ebay/paypal "before". It's even doing this on sub 100 buck items. I guess all my stuff is frozen until I get over 100 feedback. It wouldn't be so aggravating if I didn't really need the money right now for possible moving expenses. Scroll up the thread and you'll see I was like you a few months ago. What problem? LOL

That completely sucks. I would sell my items through fredmiranda.com and through dgrin.com. Both have reputable buyers and feedback. I have purchased through both; my 70-200 f4L and D500 macro attachment, and sold a Canon 28-85 through dgrin.
I am also honked at PayPal. The most egregious thing they did was letting me charge a Southwest ticket on it, then when I showed up for the flight there was a major problem. I wasted at least 15 minutes at the ticket counter and had to BUY a new ticket right then despite all the proof and confirmation number, etc.
The second time was more recent, I renewed a netidentity e-mail forwarding account for the princely sum of oh, $20, and they never processed it to the vendor. Grrrrr. My mail was DOWN until I had the vendor charge my cc instead. The charge never showed up.
I do receive money for digital-direct image sales and make them pay the 3.3% fees. I might investigate doing that via Google instead. To hear what you're going through--we could all find ourselves in that boat. Heinous and to me a violation of fiduciary responsibility. If the practice is widespread by PayPal, it's time to get the blogosphere in overdrive about it. |

This might well be the beginning of the end for eBay and pay-pal. I don't think folks will put up with shenanigans. |

I am new at selling on E-Bay and got scammed by 2 China Wholesalers and 1 US wholesaler and now have found a wholesaler from China that finally accepts Alertpay. Is this a secure way to pay for items and what recourse do I have if they don't deliver? Please reply ASAP. I too have had major problems with PayPal and DO NOT want to ever use them again. Thanks. |
