National Geographic opens photo contest to amateurs

Winner gets trip to Galapagos Islands.

National Geographic magazine is holding its second “Energizer Ultimate Photo Contest” in which photographers compete to see whose work will be published in a magazine ad for batteries.

The winner also gets a National Geographic Expedition trip for two to the Galapagos Islands. The contest began Wednesday and ends June 30.

Photos must be submitted online at nationalgeographic.com/lithium. The contest has six categories: wildlife, nature, travel, people and cultures, weather and inspiration.

Two finalists in each category will be chosen. From Aug. 14 through Sept. 15, people online will vote in each category. A grand prize winner will be announced Oct. 15.

Nice trip prize.

Nice competition, pity it's only open for US residents.

Noticed one of the 2008 winning shots was a water drop shot. :)
