I convinced my boss to let me do the brochure shots for our new MFP ("MultiFunction Printer", they used to be called "copiers".), instead of hiring a professional from outside, like they have done before. (I was less than impressed with what I saw of his work the last time). One of our folks in sales also asked me if I would do some pics of another model, to help her with a sales presentation on the product she is putting together.

I realize photos of office machines are not nearly as exciting as pretty models or fantastic landscapes, but hey, this is meat and potatoes photography.

I'm pretty pleased with how these turned out, though I do think I need better lighting. I had some issues with the tan covers not standing out well from the white background, the colors were so close that selectively adjusting them to stand out was difficult.

Setup was a roll of white background paper suspended from the wall. Lighting was an on-camera 430EX flash, bounced off an 8 foot suspended ceiling. Fluorescent lights in the ceiling, and improvised reflectors on the left and right of the MFP (a silver automotive sunscreen and a piece of white foamcore). Room was a little close, so I used the 18-55 kit lens to get the wider view.

Anyway, I just wanted to show off what I did and if anybody has any tips for the next time I do this, any input is much appreciated.

I think those look pretty good. My only comments are that I agree on more DoF for "perspective" and on "5050," the top left of the printer sorta blends in with the background a bit more than I'd like. Otherwise I think you did a great job with these.

Those look pretty good, just what I would expect to see in the IT catalogues that the vendors send us all the time.

I particularly like the ones with the close-ups of the buttons, especially the "Start" button.
