Congrats Erica they're both very beautiful, I particularly like the backlit one.
I went ahead and paid up the full amount and have received all my materials. I'm on lesson Three, but oi vey... I used to like math! |

Has anyone tried to use their NYIP student status to get academic software discounts any where? I didn't know if they were considered to be "enough of a school" to be granted discounts, etc. I've emailed Academic Superstore, but they haven't replied yet -- I'll post whatever they send me.

Kind of a coincidence to find this thread. Only an hour ago I dug out my Photo Project for Unit #1. My pics are ready to be printed and mailed on Monday.
One question... one of my shots was taken before I enrolled. Is that cheating? :)
 cdrice, I'm interested to see what you find out. I work at a college and the discounts are HUGE! I'll check with my friend at the campus computer store Monday. He might know.
Can I join this Frat house? I never liked the sororities. How about a toga party when we all graduate? |

nah its not cheating! I used several that fit the purpose! |

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, boy! Check out their reply.
"Hello, I apologize for the delayed response. Yes, NYIP is a qualified institution.
Adobe does require a valid photo ID as well as dated information. A Student ID with an expiration date that has not yet passed will qualify as dated info."
The last comment regards the description I sent them of the NYIP card, as I explained it does not indicate enrollment date, nor semester information -- only an expiration date. Looks like it will still work!

I've become a little disillusioned (or perhaps just fed up) with the "real people" at NYIP (for a few reasons -- see this thread for some of the details), so I'm not really interacting with them much... But I'm still making my way through the course materials.
Honestly, I'm not as impressed as I thought or hoped I would be.
Biggest benefit, I think, will be the discount at academic superstore. Has anyone tried that? I haven't had any disposable income to sink into any new software lately, so I haven't tried it yet myself.

Wow! Thanks for the warning! :)
I am going to use the NYI courses as a rider to a Media Technologies major at a local college. I am hoping they compliment each other well.
A note:
I got a bridal consultant certification via one of these mailer courses. You can only get out of it what they send you. If they are good, quality materials, you will get good, quality information. If they are crap... :) I went to Penn Foster and my course was wonderful. The supplemental stuff is what was worth it for me. I am hoping these materials are as good as those were.
I think I may end up having to buy quite a bit of software for my schooling at the local college. I will try to use my NYI student ID before I use my college ID from CSTCC. Will let you know how that turns out :) |

| Just completed two of the three photo assignments for Unit Two! If anyone would like to take a look and give me some feedback, it'd be much appreciated. How is everyone else doing with their studies? It's been real quiet around the Frat house lately. |

| Thanks Tammy... they are in my portfolio under NYIP, Unit Two. I am excited to start Unit Three but trying not to rush it too much. Want to absorb as much info as I can. Thanks again! |

HA! Well, how funny is it that even *that* benefit isn't available. I'm not sure if anyone has has tried it, but I finally tried to make a purchase at academic superstore, and my-previously-approved-NYIP-student credentials have now been rejected.
"As NYIP does not offer degrees, it is not an eligible institution."
"When I contacted you and submitted my ID several MONTHS ago, you said NYIP was an eligible institution." (also included original email confirmation from them).
"As NYIP does not offer degrees, it is not an eligible institution."
