Ok.. sooo seems like here lately scores just get worse and worse for not just me - a lot of people seem to be upset.
Sooo.. I almost think it should be put in that if a score is given that is less than 5 - the form should require a comment. I dont know about ya'll but if someone wants to give me a 1, 2, or 3.. I'd at least like to know what they feel I could have done differently to get a better shot.. ya know??

Where's that animated icon of someone beating a dead horse? Let me go and see if I can find it somewhere...

hahah seriously. it is a GREAT idea. but its been debated over and over...and this is one of those things that will never be agreed upon haha

It's been brought up before, and the general consensus has been that it would simply serve to make people give whatever is the lowest vote not requiring a comment. As much as I would like to get that feedback on the low votes, I have to agree it would either do as suggested, or perhaps force some people to give garbage comments. Worse, they may just decide not to participate.

BTW, I see you have given three times as many comments as you have received. Thank you.

Man, that smiley face on the left is ruthless. It's not just beating the dead horse it's chewing on it.

Are they biting a dead horse? That's disturbing.

I think the one in the middle is supervising.

I don't know about that. The others are content with whipping, heckling, and head butting.
But that carnivorous one... he even relishes it! Look at the smug smile afterward!

Tired of bad scores? How about this, put up your very very best work every single time you do a challenge. Do the challenge like you were going up for a Nobel Prize. That way people wont be able to ignore it and even those that do vote down, their voices will be silenced. Doing this will make you a better photographer....

You apparently have never heard the Mr. Obvious show........either that or you have no sense of humor.

Mine does, and a know it (but the other one is good and going well). Gotta love the Rollercoaster of one photo doing better than expected, and the other doing worse............

But I am not whinging about scores. The people who have been around the threads a while know that this topic gets raised about monthly............

After a while, you realise
Some people will give low scores no matter what
Some people will not comment on those low scores
Other people will love that same photo, and give a high score
At the end of the day, people all vote differently, and like different things

Finally
The scores are just an average, there is no prize or consequence at the end, and some of my favourite photos have been scored low by people, and yet others have loved them. Do you want to please the majority, or blow the socks off a few.........

edit cause I can't type

I ate horse when I was in Switzerland last year as well. Not raw though, like the locals were trying to get me to!

All this horse eating talk has me wondering...
do different breeds taste different?
Are these horses raised for eating, or just slaughtered when they get old?
How is it prepared?

who knew this thread would turn into a culinary discussion...lol

wikipedia knows everything.
the horse meat i ate in iceland was usually raw steak inlaid in salt water (dried-salted?) and then just cooked for about half an hour or so.

Not the ones here on DPChallenge.

They've been tenderized.

Yes, I am tired of crapy scores. But I certainly don't need crappy excuses/reasons to go along with them.
Instead, whenever I have time, I read forums tips and tricks and see if I can both understand them and combine them into use with limited the equipment I have. Eventually I will be getting scores that satisfy me. Mostly I try to have fun and make this photography habit a fun one. The comments I get without forcing comments are way more helpful than what I would receive if a person were forced to comment in order to vote. But then again, when I see the Talent, experience and imagination of the shots here on dpc, I don't expect to get any ribbons, and will be more than happy to score 5, or close.
Being average among the best is still pretty damn good.
Next topic is the beating of animals? That aint legal everyplace, how about just the mangleing of potential food? I might be able to make some mashed potato's look exciting!
