Does anyone know if fill light in Lightroom 1.4 and Shadow/Highlight adjustment in CS2 are legal in Basic? I know this question has been asked before, but a search brings up more threads than I have time to wade through before bed!

Shadow/Highlight is legal in Basic as long as it is applied across the entire image...no selections. For further information contact SC.

Shadow/highlight is still legal in basic, last I heard. By "fill light" do you mean the similar adjustment which brightens shadows when converting from RAW in Photoshop? As far as I know, that's legal as well. But I'm definitely not a rules expert!

I will tell you what I think and I use PSP XI. I dont use it often but highlight/midtone/shadow is allowed in basic. Fill light I am assuming is the same as my fill flash and is not allowed to my thinking but I am not sure of that. Let me know when you find out because if fill flash is allowed I will be able to use it to! hahaha.

Though it has always seem like it shouldn't be, since it selective in its application, S&H is legal, and I assume, since it does basically that same thing on one side only, fill would be, but to be sure look who among the SC is on and ask them in a PM or open a letter , they get back to you ASAP

The following two basic editing rules seem to apply to your question.

You may:

saturate, desaturate or change the colors of your entry, but no selections are allowed.
use RAW conversion software as long as the changes are made globally to a single file on one layer and do not create new features or effects in the process.

So the way I see it is yes you can use fill and shadow/highlight because they affect the whole image and don't selectively edit a portion of the image.

If you want to be sure as has already been said I would contact SC and request a pre approval of your editing.

I was told anything in the Basic panel in LR is legal in basic.

Shadow/highlight is definitely fine in Basic; assuming that "fill light" is applied evenly across the entire image (and not just a selection of it, like some editing effects that create vignettes, etc.), it's fine, too.
