Can the front dial (sub-command dial) be disabled on the Nikon D200? I have a photographer friend who is constantly accidentally changing his aperture setting, especially when shooting vertically. He has resorted to taping the dial down and would love to find a solution that is more convenient.

If he shoots in Ap, perhaps he can. You can switch the command and subcommand dials, and if I remember correctly, that would switch which is active so one wouldn't do anything. I don't have my D300 with me to verify that this approach would help you... Also, if he is using non G lenses, he can actually disable it, but only if using non- G lenses and this would mean that aperture can only be changed by using the aperture ring.
