Hello all,
My grandmother has thousands of slides in her basement. I figured that the most cost effective way, in the least amount of time, to get pictures into digital form is taking pictures of the slides on a screen with my D40. What is the best way to capture these slides? Like what focal length should I use, and how can I get the best color?

Don't do that -- you will lose contrast, saturation, and resolution in the projection process. Either get an attachment for an SLR which holds the slide in the correct position for a full-frame macro, buy a slide scanner (probably the best option), or take them to Costco (or someplace) and have them scanned for pretty cheap.
A good slide scanner these days should be around $2-300, and worth it for the quality. Read some reviews first ... |
