I've had my DSLR for close to five months now. One thing I miss about my compact was that, if I fully engaged the shutter release button, I'd always get the shot. Whether it could autofocus or not, it would always give me something. With this thing (Oly E-520), it seems that unless I'm using manual focus, I only get the shot if it manages to achieve focus. Otherwise, the green light just flashes, and the shutter release button might as well be ornamental. It's a great camera, but autofocus downright sucks in low light conditions. I'm of the opinion that I'd rather get an out-of-focus shot than no shot at all. Is there a way to use AF and ensure that the shutter always fires? Do other DSLR's work this way? |

There should be an Auto Focus Lock button on the camera, check your manual.

I don't know about the Olympus but the Nikon works that if you are on the single foucus that it has to be in focus to take the photo. If it is contionus focus then it does not have to be in focus to take the photo. I think there is a setting to over ride how the focus work. You might try to use (S) insted of (C). Hope this helps. |
