supposed to sound like something is loose? So, I took the camera out of the box and is has a little noise inside, like something is loose. Not like something is rolling around in there, but like something is moving back and forth when the camera moves side to side. Is there supposed to be a noise? I was scared at first because I put in the charged battery and it wouldn't turn on, but I took the battery out and put it in again and it turned on. They forgot to send the CF card, so I don't have a card, but I did take a pic and it things seemed to work.
I just didn't know if the sound and the first time not turning on is something I should be worried about or if there is something in the camera that shifts a little when moved side to side. |

Hate to say this, but there isn't anything that audibly moves in mine...
Hope it is all ok - and congrats, too! |

Uhm... where did you get it from... and was it used? No. It should not feel/sound/act like it has loose parts. It should feel completely solid.

It came from B&H new.
I thought it shouldn't have any sounds, but I wanted to make sure. |

Other than the fact that they are now closed for a week for the holiday :-( I am super sad. Especially since I am going on a GTG this Saturday and wanted to take her out for a spin. Oh well, I will just have to schedule another GTG when I can get this sorted.
ET say thanks for all of your help! I appreciate it.

I assume you've tried it without a lens on, just to make sure it is the body, not the lens? |

Just got home and shook my 40D and it makes a slight rattle. Not sure but I think it's in the flash, I popped the flash up and then shook it with it open and no noise, must be in the hinges when the flash is shut. Try the same and see if that might be your problem, if so I say no big deal. |

There is a 'switch' in the camera that detects when it is in landscape or portrait orientation. Really just like a pendulum that swings when you turn the camera. Perhaps this is what you hear. Should be very faint and always come from the same place - as in it is not something rattling around inside. |

Found this thread with Google as was worried of my 40D and can confirm, that the low rattle comes from popup flash side supports/sliders.
Once the flash is up. No noice when rotating or with lateral movement.
Thanks. Now I can sleep again.

Send it over, i have a Korean friend who says he can eat anything that moves. This will test him good.

There should be an ever so slight, rather quiet sound when you tilt the camera from side to side. Nothing is loose. Both my Rebel XT and the 40D do this, but you have to really listen for it, but it's there. :) Nothing is wrong. It's not like something sliding around. It's a very subtle controlled sound. |
